What song describes you best?

I’m really not sure what song describes me best, I guess it depends on what kind of mood I’m in. Right now, it would have to be either Faith Hill’s “Wild One”, or “32 Flavors” by Ani Difranco.

Almost always, when I can hear a soundtrack to my life, it’s one of the big instrumental scores from the movies.

During good days, I swear I can hear the theme to Indiana Jones in my mind, or The Final Game from The Natural, or even Yeager’s Triumph from The Right Stuff.

Times like those, I feel like a king.

One Particular Harbor

The song I hum to myself fairly often is R.E.M’s The Great Beyond.

“I’m breaking through,
I’m bending spoons,
I’m keeping flowers in full bloom,
I’m looking for answers from the great beyond”

I’m also fond of Turn the Page, by Bob Seeger. Not so much for the literal interpretation of the lyrics, but because I like the overall message. Move on, keep going, never give up, and you never know what the next day holds.

Jack Ingram, I Would

At the moment, probably I’m Alright by Jo Dee Messina, particularly because of the changes I’ve gone through in the last 10 years. Especially this verse:

This describes me and most of my friends from HS… I’m back in touch with most of them, and I find that this is what we’ve all gone through.

The other is Life’s A Dance by John Michael Montgomery. The chorus, especially, with:

Just a couple snippets into my outlook, I guess…

“Better Days” by Bruce Springsteen… the lyrics are applicable at the moment…

Perfect Circle by REM:

Put your hair back, we get to leave
Eleven gallows on your sleeve
Shallow figure, winner’s paid
Eleven shadows way out of place
Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room…

Pull your dress on and stay real close
Who might leave you where I left off?
A perfect circle of acquaintances and friends
Drink another, coin a phrase
Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room…

Try to win and suit your needs
Speak out sometimes but try to win
Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room…

Or, Don’t Give Up by Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel.

Well, I’d like to answer with some kind of inspirational song like “All-Star” by Smashmouth, but unfortunately something like “Whistling in the Dark” by They Might Be Giants is probably a better description of me…

“Personal Jesus” by Depeche Mode–“reach out and touch faith”

“Perfect Day”–Collective Soul featuring Elton John
that song is about me!

“King of the World” by Dan Bern (okay, so I’d be queen of the world…stupid gendered language)

Van Morrison’s “Brown-eyed Girl”…of course!

Smash it up by the (international) Noise Conspiracy

My ahem best friends have picked my song for me. It’s “The Bitch Is Back” by Elton John, and they like to play it when I enter the room. My nickname at school was the Bitch, so there’s a whole theme happening here.
Just to clarify, I am not a social climber, or drug user, rather it was nominated for the lines “I’m a bitch, I’m a bitch, oh the bitch is back”.
I’m almost certain they mean it affectionately.

As pathetic as it is To The Moon and Back by Savage Garden.

“Life’s Been Good”–Joe Walsh. Not for any specific details, but for the general sentiment. I often find myself wondering how I’ve managed to make it as far as I have, and that fits with the basic mood of the song.

Either that or “Comfortably Numb”–Pink Floyd.
