What song does the chorus of Adele’s Rumor has It sound like?

Mrs. Devil and I are wholly detached from commercial pop music, so we may have no idea what we’re talking about—all this could have come from background music in stores, passing cars, errant CIA mind control waves, whatever.

We heard a song with the chorus “rumor has it” in it while in a restaurant. In one of those long-term married synchronized things, we were both trying to remember who sang it. Eurythmics? Melissa Ethridge? Black Flag? The thing is, after we laughed at both trying to remember but not being able to, we go nowhere. We got home and went to the Net and could only find Adele’s song. Since neither of us could remember anything other than the chorus (didn’t pay attention at the time), we can’t get anywhere else.

Is this one of those time-slipstream things, where a modern song kinda sounds cheesy-80s like and we only think we remember it?

Here’s a direct link to the chorus we’re talking about: - YouTube

I agree, it definitely reminds me of something. I want to say a Police song.

It’s a bit like the chorus of “Laughing” by The Guess Who: The Guess Who - Laughing - YouTube

It reminds me very very much of the Eurythmics’ Missionary Man.

(I could totally play the “what song does that remind me of?” game with you and the Mrs. Annoys the crap out of my Mr., mainly because I usually think of the answer at 3:30 am.)

I think you’ve summed up Adele in one sentence there. I still refuse to believe that “Rolling in the Deep” wasn’t a cover. I sang along with that song the first time I heard it! It just got lost when the Matrix blipped, and the rest of you may not remember it, but it’s a classic, I swear it is!
