What song was #1 on the day you were born

UK ~ Jennifer Rush - The Power Of Love
U.S ~ Whitney Houston - Saving All My Love For You
Aus ~ Mick Jagger and David Bowie - Dancing In The Streets
Man I feel old!

“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” - Diana Ross (US)
“Band of Gold” - Freda Payne (UK)
“In the Summertime” - The Mixtures* (Aus)
*never heard of them

My Wife:

“Happy Together” - The Turtles (US)
“Release Me” - Englebert Humperdink (UK)
“Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever” - The Beatles (Aus)

Much cooler than mine…

Ive heard of all of yours - I think your one of the only people that’s replied to this thread that i’ve actually recognised all the songs!
This thread is making me feel old - I feel a panic attack coming on!

Every Time You Go Away by Paul Young

Never heard of it.

I Got You Babe - Sonny and Cher (US)
Help! - The Beatles (UK and AUS)

US - “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love Babe” - Barry White
UK - “Kung Fu Fighting” - Carl Douglas
AUS - “Evie (Part 1)” - Stevie Wright

Never heard of the last one, but the first two are pretty damn good. Apparently, I’m a lover and a fighter.

UK- Eye of the Tiger- Survivor
US/AUS- Abracadabra- Steve Miller Band

I get around - The Beach Boys, US
It’s over - Roy Orbison, UK
You’re my world - Cilla Black, AUS

For me (and Baker):

UK: Let’s Have Another Party - Winifred Atwell (never heard of it)
US: Let Me Go Lover - Joan Weber (nor that)

Aussie charts don’t go back to the Stone Age.

For me, it was Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May/Reason to Believe” topping both the U.S & U.K. charts.

Topping the Australian chart was “Banks of the Ohio” by Olivia Newton-John  Don’t know that one.

US: “Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself Again” - Sly and the Family Stone. That’s amusingly appropriate for me.

UK: “Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)” - Edison Lighthouse. Ugh. Brutal.

AUS: “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head” - Johnny Farnham. Hmmm. I do kinda like the rain. (Never heard that version before - just the BJ Thomas one, and it isn’t even in iTunes).

Mine are “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” by Poison in the US, “Especially For You” by Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan in the UK and “Kokomo” by the Beach Boys in Australia.

Now I have Poison in my head and it won’t go away.

I looked to see what was playing the night I was conceived:

“A Big Hunk of Love” by Elvis

Oh God.

US – “Shadow Dancing,” Andy Gibb
UK – “You’re the One that I Want,” John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John
Aussie – “I Can’t Stand the Rain,” Eruption

Yeesh, what a shitty day for music.

For me:
US & UK: “Get Off My Cloud,” Rolling Stones (which works as my theme song)
AUS: “Que Sera Sera,” Normie Rowe and the Playboys (which proves the Aussies are contrarians)

For my daughter:
US: “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” Ricky Martin
UK: “Sweet Like Chocolate,” Shanks & Bigfoot
AUS: “No Scrubs,” TLC

Sucks to be her.

So, Australian people: are The Mixtures worth checking out? (And Olivia Newton-John had a hit with “The Banks of the Ohio”? In, like, 1970? Australia is a weird place.)

US - *I’m a Believer * - The Monkees (LOVE that song)
UK- *Green Green Grass of Home * - Tom Jones (… not so much)

Nope. You’re a day older than me.

US Woody Woodpecker by Kay Kyser

Sheesh, that says it all really. No wonder my life sucks.

UK was based on sheet music sales then rather than records, so doesn’t really count.
Australia non-existent.
Born 1948 (Yep, I know, I’m antediluvian).

Can’t Buy me Love - The Beatles

They toured Australia a few weeks later.
