I wonder if it’s theoretically possible for a grandmother and grandchild to have been born while the same singer had number 1 hits. Figure the hits would have to be at least 35- preferably more- years apart. Tony Bennett or Frank Sinatra would probably be the most likely contenders for the singer.
US & UK- “I Want To Know What Love Is”, Foreigner
AUS- “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, Band Aid
I am familiar with both pieces, but that’s not for the better.
Mrs Robinson - Simon & Garfunkel- US
Young Girl - Gary Puckett & The Union Gap-UK
This Guy’s In Love With You - Herb Alpert-AUS
Sort of a theme I got going there.
December 8th, 1980 was a day that shall forevermore live in infamy to all music lovers.
Lady - Kenny Rogers (US)
Super Trouper - Abba (UK)
Shaddup You Face - Joe Dolce Music Theatre (AUS)
Or even the same song, best thing I could think of maybe having a chance would be I Will Always Love You which hit #1 in 1974 by Dolly Parton and again in 1992 by Whitney Houston(and also in 1982 by Parton again) but 18 years apart aint a big enough spread.Maybe Metallica or somebody will remake it soon.
Partons #1s were on the country charts,of course.
Don’t Be Cruel/Hound Dog - Elvis Presley, US
Lay Down Your Arms - Anne Shelton, UK Hmm, never heard of the song or singer.

**Bird Dog ** by **the Everly Brothers ** (yes, I’m old.)
Never heard of it.
Nothing, apparently. On my birth day and month, the site jumps from two years before my birth year to three years after. Dang!
(US) O’Jays - “Love Train” (Awesome! People of the world…)
(UK) Donny Osmand - “Twelfth Of Never” ( :dubious: )
(AUS) Carly Simon - “You’re So Vain” (How could it be about me? I just got here!)
That should be Tony Orlando & Dawn - maybe that’s why you didn’t recognize them? They also sang “Tie A Yellow Ribbon”
Young Love by Tab Hunter
Let It Be - The Beatles
Still love that song.
This was cool, thanks!
OK, I went back and tried it again, and this is what I got, and I never heard of it either. Shall we plan to get together next month to celebrate our 50th birthdays?
I hate to be reminded of this.
“Calcutta” by Lawrence Welk. God, no wonder I’m so uncool.
Yes, that’s why I didn’t recognize it, thanks.
Papa Don’t Preach - Madonna (UK)
Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel (US)
The Greatest Love of All - Whitney Houston (AUS)
Well, I suppose that could have been worse. Theoretically.
Get off my lawn, kiddo. You were born the day I graduated from high school.
Mine:
The Purple People Eater - Sheb Wooley USA
Who’s Sorry Now? - Connie Francis UK
Twilight Time – The Platters Australia
Others: Sampiro - whaddya mean you’ve never heard of Winchester Cathedral? Pop classic, man!
frostillicus and freckafree - re: Bird Dog by the Everly Brothers? Not one of their better known songs - but a fun one to listen to.
I think I win for crummiest hit song.
Stars on 45 Beatles Medley by Stars on 45.
Talk about effed up. It is a 15 minute long disco mashup/cover of Beatles songs, complete with poorly imitated singing and a synthesized drum track. I shudder to think about the existential implications.
My heart gently weeps…
You’re No Good - Linda Ronstadt (US)
January - Pilot (UK) - never heard of this one
My Little Angel - William Shakespeare
Shakespeare?!? Cripes, I didn’t think I was that old!
