What, are you kidding? You were born after Live Aid! You’re a spring chicken!
UK: Theme from S’Express- S’Express
US: Where Do Broken Hearts Go- Whitney Houston
Australia: I Should Be So Lucky- Kylie Minogue.
I don’t even know who or what S’Express is, and I don’t know any of these songs.
Sixteen Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford
I’m trying to think that doesn’t mean anything. I missed the Australian charts by just over a month.
U.S. – No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) - Barbara Streisand and Donna Summer
U.K. – When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman - Dr. Hook
Australia – Computer Games – Mi-Sex
Ahh, 1979.
UK - Forever And Ever - Slik Never heard of it
US - 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover - Paul Simon
AT least I’ve heard of the artist this time
Aus - Jump In My Car - Ted Mulry Gang
Whoooooooo?
UK - Love Grows (Where my Rosemary Goes), by Edison Lighthouse, not a song I’m familiar with.
US - I want you back, the Jackson Five.
Can’t say either song has influenced my life to any degree at all.
The Horst Wessel Lied…in Germany
We’ll met again…UK
Hi. Late to a thread again, but for anyone needing (or even wanting) information about Australian artists they may not have heard of, Milesago is about the top reference:
http://www.milesago.com/Artists/ArtistFrames.htm
Whoever got Evie part 1 by Stevie Wright hit the jackpot - in my opinion the very best piece of rock to come out of Australia. Stevie was the frontman for The Easybeats and the song was written by Harry vanda and George Young (also from The Easybeats). As another hijack almost all of the Australian songs mentioned are on YouTube, definitely **The Mixtures ** and Ted Mulry Gang. Evie is on there but not by Stevie Wright - Suzi Qattro does a surprisingly good version. Have fun if you’re interested.
For my birthdate:
US – Why Don’t You Believe Me - Joni James – huh?
UK – Here In My Heart - Al Martino another huh?
AUS hadn’t been discovered yet ;D
For my 18th birthday:
UK – I Hear You Knockin’ - Dave Edmunds
US – The Tears Of A Clown - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
AUS – Song Of Joy - Miguel Rios (haven’t heard of this one)
Sledgehammer is miles above almost every song mentioned in this thread, so yes, it could’ve been worse. For example, the number one song on your birthday could be treacly collaboration by two exceptional musicians.
When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman - Dr Hook (UK)
No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) - Barbara Streisand Donna Summer (US)
Computer Games – Mi-Sex (Aus)
OK, the two first ones spell out a nice sad theme but the final one is WTF?
Never heard any of them though
And I got this one for my 18.th birthday… kinda cool
“Perfect Day - Various Artists”
Hmm… are we like twins?
What the heck, I’ll try for my 18th birthday as well
UK: “All Around the World” by Oasis (don’t remember this)
US: “Truly Madly Deeply” by Savage Garden (I thought this came out a year later)
AUS: “Doctor Jones” by Aqua (I know I’ve heard it but I don’t remember it)
I have parents who are big Genesis fans, and I assure you there is an amount of listening that can make any song horrifying. Good video, though.
neener neener neener
It appears I was destined for a pretty dramatically split personality (that never materialized, as far as I know)…
US: One Bad Apple – The Osmonds
UK/AUS: My Sweet Lord – George Harrison
“One Bad Apple” ~ The Osmonds
San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair) - Scott McKenzie [UK]
Light My Fire - The Doors [US]
Up, Up and Away - The Fifth Dimension [Aus]
Nelson Riddle - Lisbon Antigua
UK: The Tide is High - Blondie
US: Lady - Kenny Rogers
AU: Women in Love - Barbra Streisand
Fucking pitiful.
