What song was #1 the day you were born?

2/6/62 “Peppermint Twist” by Joey Dee and the Starlighters
4/28/65 (Mrs. KVS) “The Game of Love” by Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders

Classic songs, all of them . . .

::drops the needle on the record, listens to scratchy recording of “Winchester Cathedral”::

10/18/73 US- Half-Breed by Cher.
10/18/91 US- Emotions- Mariah Carey. (life song)

I’m too depressed to check the UK charts…

January 23, 1979

US - Le Freak by Chic (great  )
UK - Y.M.C.A. by the Village People (even better)

April 9, 1982: “I Love Rock and Roll” - Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

April 9, 2000: “Maria Maria” - Santana

… both perfectly lovely songs in their own right.

12 October 1975: “Bad Blood” by Niel Sedaka in the US.
“Hold Me Close” by David Essex in the UK.

I have never heard of either of these, which makes it less fun. Off to find the mp3s!

This is very telling …

Day of Birth:
US - I’m Henry the VIII I Am by Herman and the Hermits.
UK - Help by The Beatles.

18th Birthday
US - Every Breath You Take by the Police.
UK - Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home) by Paul Young

Which means apparently I am a homeless stalker in need of assistance with delusions that I am an English king.

On January 16, 1969, the #1 song on Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles Chart was I Heard It Through The Grapevine by Marvin Gaye.

On December 20, 1978 the #1 song was “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” by Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand in the US and “Mary’s Child-Oh, My Lord” by Boney M. I’ve never heard the Boney M song; maybe I should check it out.

For Jan 21, 1984 -
US - Owner of a Lonley Heart by Yes
and for the UK - Pipes Of Peace by Paul McCartney

The charts don’t go back far enough but it was probably something by George M. Cohan’s father.

May 21, 1979.

In the USA: Reunited by Peaches and Herb. Gag.
In the UK: Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel. Better, but not by much…

October 3, 1956:

US: Don’t Be Cruel & Hound Dog by Elvis Presley

UK: Lay Down Your Arms by Anne Shelton. Who in the hell is Anne Shelton?

Well, that’s just damn depressing! It doesn’t go back to 1954. Then again, it probably would’ve been a bunch of cavemen beating on rocks.

July 6, 1981

Bette Davis Eyes by
Kim Carnes
Who is Kim Carnes?

June 6, 1972:

UK: Metal Guru by T. Rex

US: I’ll Take You There by The Staple Singers.

Very, very disappointing.

October 14, 1973:

US: “Half Breed” by Cher. (That’s a little disturbing.)

UK: “Eye Level” by Simon Park Orchestra
I’ve never heard either song.

God, what a horrible period for music was the week of March 30th, 1967:

“Happy Together”, The Turtles. :blech:

“Please Release Me”, Engelbert Humperdink. :blech: :blech:

I wish. . . by Stevie Wonder, 22 Jan 77

Tripler
I just called, to say . . .

On September 15th 1972:

Mama Weer All Crazee Now by Slade = ULK
and
Alone Again (Naturally) by Gilbert O’ Sullivan - UK

July 2, 1967–“Windy,” by the Association. I’m okay wth that. I like the Association. Really!
