What songs do you want to see mashed up?

For some time now, enterprising artists have been taking the vocals from one song and editing them over the music or bassline of another song. Some of them are mediocre, but some are a vast improvement over individual songs; for example, Linkin Park and Jay-Z actually performed a popular mash-up of Numb, a song I’ve found too repetitive, and Encore, good rap that’s hard to listen to without any real music in the background.

My question is, what songs do you want to see mashed up? What songs have excellent lyrics, but with insipid music that makes it hard to appreciate? What songs have wonderful music tainted by poor, uncreative, or assinine lyrics?

Right now, I can’t wait for a mash-up of Kanye West’s “stronger.” The background is super catchy, making me listen to it every time, even though I have to suffer through his mediocre lyrics. No, I won’t “be you black Kate Moss tonight.”

Despite loving both songs and artists, It always take a few seconds for me to figure out whether I’m listening to Aerosmith’s Dream On or No Doubt’s Don’t Speak. I think hearing someone with talent run with them could be interesting.

None come immediately to mind but there’s a Dr. Dre cover (further mash-up?) of “Numb/Encore” featuring him, Eminem, Jay-Z, Linkin Park, and 50 Cent that is truly amazing. I’ve listened to it a half dozen times over the past couple days after re-discovering it this weekend.

You mean the Daft Punk sample?

My local rock radio station does a mashup night that, poor quality of most of them, are just freaking club mixes. It takes little talent to put a 4/4 pop song over a 4/4 bass/drum loop and say “I made something new!”

It’s far more impressive when two or more songs are joined up in ways that take melody from both, weaving them together, to create something new. “Boulevard of Broken Songs” is a great example. Alternating verses of Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” sometimes with one track’s vocals over the other’s chord progressions. And a few other songs are thrown in as fills or outro.

It’s in that vein that I’d like to see other songs with similar progressions and/or themes brought together:

Linkin Park “What I’ve Done” with Midnight Oil “Beds are Burning.” It’s a dead match musically and thematically.
Daughtry “It’s Not Over” with Fuel “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)”.

I have known Daft Punk for some time.

I was on Itunes, and saw that “Stronger” was on top, and Daft Punk was right below it. I didn’t get it.

And then I heard the song.
But then again, Remixes are commonplace with Trance music.

I am currently Diging the Nick Skitz hit “Excalibur” which (I think) samples 2001: A Space Odyessey and O Fortuna!

Others I have enjoyed were

Paffendorfs “Be Cool” against Madonas “Vogue”.

A recent piece had “Return to Innocence” and the piece started playing around with it, and turned it into so much more.

This is a ‘mashed up’ piece from the Matrix. That is pretty cool. The Site gives more info while it plays. [The information comes up as The Oracle says “Hmmm”]
Also:

This guy remixes the sounds from Windows (Win 95 I believe) into a nice beat.

But there is a lot of stuff already out there.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to make my own mashups, but though I’ve tried to follow tutorials, I’m hoplessly inept.

Most recently I wanted to make a mashup of Matthew Good Band’s “Everything Is Automatic” and Kill The Alarm’s “Fire Away.” I can picture how it would sound together, but I can’t do it myself :frowning:

Stronger by Kanye West isn’t really a mash up its a sample and daft punk also worked on the song with Kanye West

I’d like to grab the descending chords from “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” and “25 or 6 to 4”, lay them all in and around each other, and throw in some hip-hop vocals about a rough breakup (maybe from Eminem?). Sample in Robert Plant’s vocals for emphasis, maybe some of the words from WMGGW, and voila: smash hit.

Wu-Tang Clan have just released the song “The Heart Gently Weeps” with George Harison’s son playing parts of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” on guitar for the beat.
