What songs hypnotize you?

Lullaby, by The New Music of Reginald Foresythe, featuring Toots Mondello on alto sax.

Astral Traveling, by Pharaoh Sanders

Kraftwerk - Europe Endless

Wiederholung is gut, ja?*

 • More gut than my German, I bet.

Just a few off the top of my head…

Fujiya & Miyagi, Ankle Injuries

Cerrone, Supernature

Gruff Rhys, Skylon!

Tindersticks, My Sister

Popol Vuh - Wehe Khorazin

Usually while high
Bittersweet symphony

Zombie by Cranberries

Moments In Love - Art Of Noise

tracks 8-11 of Low - David Bowie

Koyaanisqatsi - Phillip Glass (the whole album passes by in a blur for me)

lots of others, but those are among my favorite “zone out” pieces

I’ve never done this kind of thing before, highlighted my own post and begged for a response; I’ve always figured, if someone wanted to respond, they’d’ve responded.

However.

I’ll make an exception for Eddi. Has anyone listened to this? Anyone care to comment? I love sharing music with people, but half of the fun is their reaction when it’s something really great.

Seconded.

Also, Rush’s Tom Sawyer.

“The End of It All” - John Tejada

This one sends me to another universe. Beautiful and gives me the chills.

And

“Comfortably Numb” - Pink Floyd

This song just absorbs and mystifies me. It’s my prayer, every time I listen to it, I understand the lyrics in a different way. Oh, the solo’s are good too.

The main instrumental theme from the end of the film Sunshine.

I’ve never heard her before (I’ve heard of her), but that’s a great song. When I get some time I’m going to have to search for more. It reminds me a bit of the Damon and Naomi live album mood wise, but I have a feeling I should be saying that the other way around.

Anyway, to the OP, there’s a certain guitar sound which always hypnotises me, which I can’t describe without referring to examples - The Aints live album (Strictly Limited Sound Quality, or S. L. S. Q.), and the Wipers’ ‘Youth Of America’ define it. I see stars whenever I hear that roar.

Also, the new David Gilmour version of ‘Echoes’, from Live in Gdansk (either audio or video).

Cool. FYI, she has one great album, Mirmama–a desert island disc–one good album, Candyfloss and Medicine, and a bunch of heartbreakingly, disappointingly, mediocre albums.

North Mississippi gone on yond legend Jr. Kimbrough’s All Night Long. A five minute recording of what was often a half hour dance tour de force at his juke joint. Hypnotic West African via Mississippi music at it’s best.

“How Soon Is Now?” by The Smiths. I still can’t believe that song, even more than 20 years later.

Long time fan since Fairground Attraction. My contribution Trashcan Sinatras, Weightlifting coincidentally features her brother on guitar and vocals.

I forgot to mention Cliff Martinez’s amazing soundtrack to the film Solaris.

You can hear some of this music with visuals from the film here.

Huh. I figured I wouldn’t be the first, but…

“1983 … A Merman I Should Turn To Be” by Hendrix.

Vangelis - Ask The Mountains

Holds me captive every time.
