I own the entire Jethro Tull catalog from 1968 - 1984. I really got into Tull when I was in my late teens. I’m pretty sure if I listened to it for the first time now, I’d probably think a lot of it was a bunch of pretentious, art-rock wankery (esp. the 1972 - 1976 period).
I have on my eye pod, which isn’t an eye pod at all but a cheap mp3 player: the theme songs to Bonanza, Raw Hide and the theme from the old beef commercial.
I like Enya. Nobody else I know does. My ex called her music, and other New Age-type music, “water music” because many of her songs mention water; for example, “Orinoco Flow” and “Caribbean Blue.” Remember the early South Park episode where Stan’s grandpa wants to die and plays New Age music to illustrate the extent of his suffering? The song played in this scene is a parody of “Orinoco Flow.”
The weird thing is, I also like some crappy 80s and 90s Europop songs, mostly because I heard them used on AMVs first. Here are a few - I tried to find the original artist’s music video whenever possible, but in a couple cases I threw in other videos I like of that song :
Aqua - Roses Are Red
Smile.dk - Butterfly
Aneka - Japanese Boy- I like this slideshow better than the Top of the Pops clip of her singing this song.
Groove Coverage - Poison (a cover of the Alice Cooper song)
DJ Sammy and Yanou featuring Do- Heaven (fast version, cover of the Bryan Adams song)
Cascada - Bad Boy(just a picture of the singer, couldn’t find an AMV I liked)
Andy Lopez - Noche del Amor (only YouTube video I could find that wasn’t a remix)
I wouldn’t necessarily say ashamed but I got the Alanis Morrisette CD when I was in college. She had a nice voice and the CD had a couple rocking tunes. Nothing like blasting You Aughta Know on the stereo while playing Desert Strike on the Sega, right?
I have one collection of BeeGees … I am very sentimental about a few songs on it and have it on my ‘sleepytime’ shuffle = I use ot for when I am headachy and need lulling to sleep with happy thought music.
Not sure if I should mention it, but I also have 3 albums of in country music, folksongs sung by soldiers and sailors in Vietnam. I used to hear my dad and his buddies listening to them, singing along to them and many of them are cracking good songs. Some funny, some sad, some rebellious. I am not ashamed per se, but many people are not understanding of military families. We can frequently look at things differently, sort of like the black humor of emergency medical personnel.

The entire C. W. McCall catalog (yes, he had multiple albums, not just the single “Convoy.” And come to think of it, I’m not embarrassed by this one. He did some good stuff. )
My 2 that I’m most ashamed of to admit are mine are the first two Avril Lavigne albums. I was kinda emo at the time, and she was super freaking hot to my 18-22 year old self.
I owned that one Ace of Bass CD at one point in high school, but that was more of a joke than anything. Paid $.99 for the whole cd in like 99-00.
I own a Neil Diamond album, for his own version of “I’m a Believer”, which I think is better than the Monkees version. I also own a Monkees album (despite their lesser version of the aformentioned song).
You’re ashamed of the JT? I know a lot of people who aren’t fans, but are they generally considered un-cool?
