What stories about ferrypersons of the dead would you recommend?

I’ve been listening to the Desert Skies podcast and watching the anime series Death Parade, both about modern day versions of Charon, the ferryman of the dead from Greek mythology. I’m enjoying them both, and it seems to me like the topic has room for stories of all kinds. Are there any that you all have enjoyed, whether novels, short stories, TV shows, podcasts, or any other type of media?

Davy Jones in the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels is a ferryman of a specific kind of dead. I enjoyed Nighy’s portrayal.

Well, Meet Joe Black would be an obvious choice. Decent movie.

That Hellbound Train by Robert Bloch (of Psycho fame).

“The Mortal Remains” from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs might qualify.

Definitely Terry Pratchett’s death series. The funniest example of the genre IMO

“Dead Like Me”

Neil Gaiman’s American Gods has a couple such characters with extended presence in the story.

As a spin-off from Sandman, Neil Gaiman also wrote Death: the High Cost of Living
