What stuff always exceeds your expectations?

Inspired by this thread- how about the opposite: what stuff always exceeds your expectations?

I offer two:

**The pot stickers at U-Lee, corner of Hyde & Jackson, SF **- no matter how I try to over-sell them to friends when they visit the City (grab the Hyde & Powell cable car and get off when it turns on to Hyde), every time I get them, they remain God on a Plate.

Die Hard - it’s the Casablanca of action films. Just when I start watching when it comes across my screen, I think “oh, cool” but then McClane mutters “fists with your toes” to himself, and Alan Rickman says, in an aside to his henchman after asking for the release of terrorists from the group Asian Dawn: “I read about them in Time Magazine” and I remember what I am dealing with, and settle in for a generous watching.

You?

Things which exceeded my (high) expectations:

  1. The Sonoran Desert.

  2. The Las Vegas Strip.

  3. Color season in northern New England.

  4. Above the treeline in the White Mountains.

Shepherd’s pie or cottage pie. It’s basically just mince and mashed potato but every time it surprises me.
