Magneto’s electromagnetic field manipulation power. Useful for a whole lot of things. Although mostly I’ll just be using it for making metal sculptures. Out of asteroids.
Telekinesis and teleportation would be cool, but I don’t get enough exercise as it is. I’m a good guy, but that would be very hard to not use for harm. In many, many ways.
I thought - Be able to play any musical instrument as soon as you touch it. But really, what’s the fun in that? No pain, no gain. Part of the joy of ability and skill is the sweat and tears that got you there.
I already have all the knowledge of the world at my fingertips, just give me a second while I look it up.
How about the ability to know, and diagnose any physical problem that a pet has. And the best course of treatment. Pets talk to us, but it is sometimes unclear. I guess I could expand that to humans too.
Luck isn’t a superpower. What, you shoot luck lasers out of your eyes? It’s just hard to picture. And certainly not very cinematic.
(Deadpool, for those that don’t get the reference)
I personally would want Deadpool’s regenerative superpower.
Maybe a faster working version. Having that tiny hand for a few days would be a real downer. And really creepy.
I’d have to go with the mind control thing. Just for starters, world peace in a split second. If that’s the only time you ever used it, it would still outdo almost anything else being done.
I’d rather blow people up Scanners-style than mindrape them. At least I preserve their free will. The regenerative power sounds nice and all, but you still feel the pain. Invulnerability ala Superman would be a better route there, I think.
" I did a loop for the Dali Lama and he was gonna stiff me. And I say, 'Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know. ’ And he says, ‘Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but **when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness. ’ So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice."
Can “God Mode” be a super power? Ie all of them all at once? ‘Cause that’s the superpower I want.
Along with this, though, you’d need to have the skills to do all these tasks. Otherwise, you’d have to have contractors do the work, and that puts the place on the radar of the authorities.
Oh, and all the furnishings etc. would have to be things you could teleport in by yourself (or with help, if your abilities let you jump a person at the other end of the huge sofa, etc.).
As for me:
I of course fantasize about winning the lottery, solving my money problems for, basically, the rest of my life. That would require either precognition (10-15 minutes would do - could buy my Powerball ticket at 10:55 PM), or as someone else mentioned, the ability to influence luck to have things go my way.
The ability to master a skill, somewhat easily, would be really nice. Not “I want to know how to do woodwork… POOF, I’m a master furniture maker”, but to learn things quickly, retain the information, and be GOOD at whatever I learned. Imagine the difference that would make to someone’s life. No more work struggles. A 10 minute Youtube video and I can now install an appliance (Aru would find that useful for bunker-building). Etc.
Another one would be the ability to be healthy, physically and mentally. No illness. No cancer. No metabolic disorders. Weight would always be within a health-enough range. An injury would heal super-fast. I’m not talking Superman-level imperviousness to all damage, just near-invulnerability to routine stuff. Cut off an arm, and that arm is still gone (but the stump heals lickety-split). And not something that lets me live forever - but I’ll be mentally alive, and physically there, until a brief decline at the end.
Drew Hayes wrote a series of books called Super/Powereds (following some students through 4 years at a superhero training program at a university). It focuses on a small group whose powers were very real, but had been uncontrollable until some kind of unspecified treatment happened. One character had the ability to influence luck - but it went both ways, e.g. he won some money via a lottery scratch-off, then got hid by a car.
Depends on how discreet you want to be. Flight might give better scenery, but then people see you, and try to shoot you down.
It’d still be cool, but teleportation seems more useful. Plus, with teleportation, you can choose to hide your abilities (just have to be careful about when / where you travel).
Super-speed. There’s not enough time in the day to do everything I’d love to get done.
