What the eff is up with YouTube today (5/3/10)?

Whenever I try to get on it today, it’s like all of a sudden I’m back to having dial-up.

Anyone else having this problem? Or is it just me? Other websites are loading as quickly as they usually do.

I just went out and checked a bookmarked video and it was actually fast for a change.

Maybe it was really busy when you checked?

Otherwise, if you’re connection is via a cable company, you sometimes need to reboot the modem. Usually, this involves unplugging the power to the modem for 1 minute then plugging back in again – but you should check with your ISP to make sure what their process is.

I’ve found YouTube to be problematic last night and today, on two different computers. Sometimes it won’t come up at all, when it does come up many of the thumbnails are blank, and many of the videos won’t load.

YouTube, like Google, hosts their stuff on many different machines. So while it might be good for one person, or everyone else you know, if you happen to get connected to a machine that’s having issues, comparing your experience with others’ experience might not be valid.

Sometimes YouTube works like shit for me, for days on end. Then other days it runs like a well-oiled machine. Unfortunately, at least in my experience, you’ve just got to roll with the punches.

You can try clearing your YouTube cookies (probably your Google cookies too) and your cache and see if that helps. But diagnosing a YouTube problem is often a lost cause.
