There’s “Mac” this and that to describe mass produced stuff of low quality or jobs giving low quality rewards for low status workers.
i knew of rice rocket for the motorcycles from the 80s but the first time i heard of the term “ricer” for one of those hondas with all that expensive and useless junk was on this very board about 15 years ago right around when the first fast and the furious movie came out
i commented the term reminded me of the kids who’d put all sort of expensive crap in a pinto dad might have bought or just gave em …
The single word description “ricer” IIRC was a later-generation usage by making it a wordplay on “racer”, and in my experience was more related to the flashier kitted-up millennial-era versions as opposed to for example an original-generation 240Z which would have been a proper sport car out of the box and only a fool would ruin through flamboyant kitting up.
But by now, yes, why have a term that specifies that this particular hotrod is of Asian origin, considering that American hotrods seem hard to find any more? So we have the classic term hot rod, and the more recent “hot hatch” in the case of hatchbacks and subcom crossovers; or the reference to appearance as “Pimped Out” (until that one gets cancelled for the allusion to pimps) – all which suggests to me the possible adoption of the phrase “racered out”, or a neologism like “kitter” (for having a lot of racer kit bolted on, with “hot kitter” for one that actually performs), to describe these vehicles, and never mind where the maker is located.
Excuse me, but those of us with rods prefer the term “vehicles”.
And the people here who don’t have to walk around with one of those have no idea how awkward it is…
