What the fuck is going on with this Big Bang Theory shit being shoved down my throat?

I don’t mind that part of it so much, actually. I can accept that if you squint a bit, there might be a resemblance.

The thing I do mind is having people tell me I should give it another shot. Or insisting that I’m somehow not watching it the right way.

Take the hint the first time! Or at least the third time.

If I tell you about my “Firefly” addiction, and you tell me you didn’t like the show, I question your tastes and drop the subject. I don’t proceed to go on for 10 minutes about what you are missing, explaining the awesomeness of the show, and how your tastes are “wrong”. I do realize there are Firefly fans that do these types of things, and I will also agree that those fans are annoying wankers, as are the aggressive fans of any show.

What I don’t understand is why or how more than 1 normal, well-adjusted person thinks it’s necessary to go to more than minimal lengths in a vain attempt to convince me to pick up this one show.

Change the damn channel. Problem solved.

Read the damn thread.

Nobody ever told me to watch The Big Bang Theory. During my lurid past, I lived without TV for years. I watch plenty now, but don’t “keep up” with the network seasons; Netflix Streaming & reruns introduce me to many shows. (Never, ever watched Seinfeld or Friends.) And I don’t tell people to watch them, since I figure they’ve already had the chance…

So I’ve just begun watching Big Bang Theory, since it’s suddenly ubiquitous. Not great, but pretty amusing.

Who is this “they” you speak of?

“They” are the BBT haters, as was in my post.

If someone doesn’t like a programme then fair enough, we’re all different.

But I don’t like people telling me that I only pretend to like something because it makes me feel clever.

I have geek interests, but am the antithesis of all things geek, both physically and socially.

So I’m not pretending to like the show because its sympathetic to my stereotype, as the stereotype is not of me.

Ah. There’s the problem right there. Here. I’m prescribing you a handful of fucks. Put those in your pocket. Don’t go giving any away. Not a single one.

Just a reminder, people, we’re in Cafe Society. It’s okay to disagree with each other’s opinions, but please refrain from personal attacks in the process. If you’re that pissed off, take it to the Pit.

Thanks,

Just to clarify, I was only saying that Lust shouldn’t give a fuck what others think. I wasn’t trying to insult him.

I wasn’t singling you out. Several people seem to be getting pretty riled up here.

I watched it the other day just to give it another go and the episode involved one of the characters having a mishap while masturbating using a NASA robot arm.

a friend said referring to the BBT syndication.

‘it will be the next Seinfeld, only funny’.

All I can say is after the first season or two those nerds get more tail than I ever did at that age. I find that unrealistic.

Nah…too easy. :stuck_out_tongue:

It does seem like suddenly the show is everywhere, but that tends to happen right when something goes into syndication. After a year or so, when the shiny wears off the syndication, they’ll cut back on it to make room for the new shows that just went syndicated. As for your local Fox affiliate removing two of the Simpsons episodes, I just don’t see the big deal. It doesn’t sound like they’re taking it off their syndication schedule entirely, just cutting it back a little to make room for a show people haven’t seen every single episode of a dozen times.

Please forgive that I haven’t read thru 175 posts. I just started watching three weeks ago and got a kick out of it so I’ve watched about a dozen eps since then.

I should say I’ve watched a bout a dozen times because it seems like I’m getting way more duplicates than I should out of them???

And that didn’t make you laugh?

I haven’t seen the episode in question, so take this with a massive grain of salt, but that situation sounds so unbelievably contrived that I don’t know if I would be able to laugh at it if I saw it. Seriously, is there any way to set that scenario up without stretching suspension of disbelief to the breaking point?

I personally don’t demand a huge amount of realism in a sitcom. I think this is a funny show, and I remember laughing, hard, several times during that episode. De gustibus.

The character, Howard, was established as working for the JPL in the first or second episode. His history with NASA gadgets stretches back to the very beginning of the show.
