What the FUCK is with these zits ???

My great-grandma is convinced that my deep cystic acne would go away if I’d “just quit putting all that medicine on it!” Other days, she recommends that I dab it with a bit of apple cider vinegar.

I’m taking minocyline now and it works well, but dang. I’ve been taking antibiotics daily for a couple of years now. I ask the dermatologist if I can ever stop, and he says, “Just as soon as your skin decides to stop having acne.” Um, doctor? I’m thirty-six!

I’m fifty and I believe I’m going through peri-menopause. For the last few months, I’ve had annoying zits along my chinline and below and behind my ears. Also sprinkling on the back of my neck and shoulders. It’s gross to be dealing with this at this time. Is this due to the hormonal changes, I wonder?

And ditto on the wrinkles and zits comment. One or the other I can deal with, but both at once is not fair at all.

Topical, oral or anal?

:stuck_out_tongue: I forget the dosage, but I’d make a brewer’s yeast “milk shake” with about 4 tablets, three times a day. It took about a month or so for results to be seen, but it did work, for a while at least (about a year-and-a-half). I don’t know if my body built an immunity to the yeast, or my acne severity increased beyond the ability of whatever the yeast was doing to cope with. In any case, I wound up at the dermatologist’s office around 17-18 y/o, and went through several regimens before the asswipe (I mean Doctor) brought out the big guns.

And I didn’t have a little sprinkling of small zits; I’d get the huge, red, swollen pustules that made me look like I was budding or something. They wouldn’t subside, either; they’d just sit there on my face like an angry, red mini-me pushing itself out of the side of my face (or worse, out the end of my nose!)
