(This is a rant about a another board. I won’t mention its name in deference to a dear brother who posts here.)
Oh boy! I’m eager to show my children the thread where it says that liberals hate America and Christianity! Cool!
Oooh! I like that thread that says my children’s Muslim friends at school follow a terrorist child molestor! I can’t wait to discuss it with them.
Huzzah! I love the way someone posted that a former president keeps a “death list” and is treasonous. I’m looking forward to discussing it at the supper table. Thankfully, you threw in a reference to his adultery.
Oh, goody! A whole thread about voyerism! I can’t wait to discuss with my kids men who like to look up women’s dresses. They always ask the cutest questions!
Yea! I get to talk to my children about rape, child murder, incest, and…
Hey. Wait a minute. What’s this?..
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? Someone used the “homo------” word in a post? Are you fucking CRAZY? What the hell am I supposed to say to my CHILDREN?!! Is there a mod in the house? Move that post to the nether regions where children cannot see.
Libertarian, I completely dig! When this board went down for a few days recently, I stumbled on to the message board for my local newspaper.
It took me a few days to stop hating my city and state after that. I do realize not all Marylanders/Baltimorians aren’t like the posters of that board, but jchrist they pissed off!
Some asshat actualy posted “they should ship 'em back to Africa” and no one flamed her! Sigh…
Unfortunately, I do. But if I gave it to you, you couldn’t access it. From time to time, it mentions the love that dare not speak its name, and so is protected at the administration level on a username by username basis. You have to ask for special permission to get in and prove that you’re eighteen.

The thing is, I started posting there because I was getting bored here. (My parodies were even flat). Live and learn, I reckon.
There are one or two people there that would see a crypto-gay-rights plot behind:
But for the most part, they’re good people with a different perspective on what constitutes right behavior. And I learn from what they have to say – without abandoning my own views.
Just as, nearly two years ago now, you caught me up short, Lib, with a sardonic comment that made me realize that your and my Christian responsibility to help the poor does not necessarily translate into a responsibility to support taxation so that the government can help the poor.
That sort of satori experience, I’ve bumped into more than once over there.
The one of Ann Coulter? Did it ever! That’s why I brought it here. It got fine reviews from the critical Pitters. I think I’m back in form, but I think I’ll keep 'em in reserve for rare occasions. Too much of a good thing, and whatnot.

There are some wonderful people there. But you know that I cannot help my passion. I made a promise, and I cannot face myself if I don’t keep it. I will not allow gay bashing in my presence, even when it is subtle and dispensed with a mere wink.
Well, ya know, SOME things just aren’t mentioned in Polite Company…
You know, sometimes I read the SDMB, and get depressed by some people’s idiotic comments, or mean spiritedness, and think to myself, “Boy, this board is getting bad.” Then I read other message boards, and they fill me with love for the wise postings and good natured friendliness on the SDMB.
There are some good and decent people there, most especially the married couple who Own The Place - whom I had the pleasure of meeting last year and having dinner with at a charming little Thai place in San Jose.
But yes, the predominant attitude I found is dominated by a concept seen in many conservative Christian groups - the Think Of The Children  filter, through which everything is processed, rational or not.
