I hear a lot of use of the prefix “uber” lately, but I have no clue what the hell it means. It’s not in the dictionary, at least not mine. What the hell does it mean? AFAIK it seems to be some sort of techo-yuppie term.
What Undead Dude said. Additional: In English we use the prefix “super-” in a similar way, meaning (simultaneously / interchangeably) “over”, “topmost”, “superlative”, “best”, etc.
Popularized the Freddy Nietzsche, whose Will to Power gave us the concept of the Ubermensche, which a dumpy little painter combined with his own brand of rabid fascist nationalism, which spawned the three-ring circus we’ve come to know as the second world war. Politicians really shouldn’t be allowed to read philosophy- they really make a mess of things. Dialectical Materialism was such a good idea, before Lenin came along and took it out of the coffee-house.
What they said, but just to pile on with more data, the actual spelling is über or ueber. When Nietzsche discussed his “superman,” the word he used, in German, was Übermensch.
