Wow, he modernized our nuclear arsenal in just six months! Amazing!
Is there any evidence that he did any such thing? Or is this something he read in his twice-daily feeding of 25 pages of glowing reviews that are prepared for him?
Out of idle (or morbid) curiosity, has anyone kept count of how many “first orders” Mr. Trump has issued as President? I keep reading his claims that the “first,” order he issued was such-and-so, and I’m having an Inigo Montoya moment.
There’s no way he could have substantially upgraded anything except the missile defense systems, which were already being developed and advanced…which raises yet another troubling problem, and one that McCain alluded to in his remarks yesterday: Trump might be just talking shit for sake of talking. But he’s dealing with a guy in Jung Un who is unequivocally and rapidly upgrading his WMD capabilities, and he’s doing so for the express purpose of defending his regime’s survival and increasing the pressure for the US and other brokers to negotiate. The fact that Trump may not (probably doesn’t) understand the dynamics at play here, and worse, may not have anyone in his administration who does (or does ‘get it’ but is effectively neutered by the chaotic power structure in the WH) does not bode well…at all. We’re drifting with broken sails into a tempest of shit.
Depends on what you mean. Did he order someone to renovate and modernize our nuclear arsenal? Possibly, like maybe he told Kushner to do it. Did anyone who’s actually responsible for our nuclear arsenal get this order? Based on the recent Vanity Fair article about the state of the DOE, it doesn’t seem likely. Has anything actually been done with our nuclear arsenal in the last six months? I think we all know the answer to that.
Just to add a post-script, it almost seems like the thing to do for republicans in power is to look for their Reagan moment, a moment when they can stand up in the face of danger and stare an enemy down and back them up a step or two. That worked for Reagan in no small part because he had people around him who weren’t thicker than pig shit. Say what one will about Reagan’s economic philosophy and simple-minded conservatism, but he did hire people who were extremely competent in a range of capacities. That was even truer with his successor George H W Bush, but much less so with George W Bush. And now we’re left with this utter joke of a cabinet, save the generals.
…the ban on US travel to North Korea (and the request that any Americans in North Korea to leave) by the 1st of September show that something is being planned. The risk of “long-term detention” will be no different in September than it is right now. What is the Trump Administration planning? Who the fuck knows. But I can’t imagine that the plan will be the smart, diplomatic option.
With a cabinet official in charge who couldn’t remember the name of his own department and didn’t know what it does. Quick study, I guess.
I was hearing it to the tune of “What the world needs now is love, sweet love.”
See? Only he could fix it!
Gee, what a surprise. :dubious:
No, “they” did not give Trump the real button. You did. You and millions of other Americans who think like you gave Trump the button. What did you think it meant, when you were voting for him to become President?
Indeed.
And of course, this so-called ‘Christian’ is totally unconcerned about the millions of people who would be killed immediately, or die more slowly and painfully of radiation poisoning, famine, etc., if we nuked North Korea.
Yeah, let’s bring Hell to this world in the name of the Lord. Exactly how do these people figure that Jesus would be anything besides appalled by this?
Well it IS Wednesday.
I’ve started to think of Wednesday as Trump Double-Down Wednesday, where he picks a stupid position and loudly doubles down on it.
2 weeks ago it was transgenders in the military
Last week it was legal immigration
Today, it’s NK.
This will all blow over when the weekly finale episode airs and some big news story breaks on Friday afternoon.
And now that we have a complete and total nutcase as Commander-in-Chief at a time like this - something that should not be tolerated for a moment - the Republican Party is apparently unconcerned about that fact.
Why do the Republicans hate America?
I don’t have anyone I care about in Guam, but it’s still not OK.
Up until last month my honorary niece lived in Seoul. She moved out, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Except now I’m un-sighing.
Oh goodness. Save your faux outrage, you unhinged clown, and learn to read.
Actually, no I didn’t. So try not to assume. Never once did I claim to be voting for Trump or to have voted for Trump. Bernie bros are much more to blame for Trump than I am. I actually even tried to talk some I know in real life to reconsider their vote for Trump. What I don’t do is come here to virtue signal and post based on my “feels.”
I’m not 100% certain Trump will nuke North Korea as a general statement.
However, if Kim drops a nuke on Guam I am 100% certain Trump will respond by dropping a nuke on North Korea.
Since April I’ve been a bit short on loved ones, in the event of Armageddon I anticipate meeting the end of the world alone. Well, I have my parrots…
I’m too close to Chicago to make a fall out shelter useful in a full out nuclear war. I fully expect that in the event of one I’ll die. I just pray it will be quick rather than drawn-out and painful.
I actually think Trump might use nukes just to cement historical significance.
