And that was only the most recent example of empty bluster. When Trump claimed he was sending an “armada” to the Korean peninsula, and it never showed up, it showed the DPRK that Trump’s threats were not serious. If the guy can’t even turn out a carrier group, why should they believe him when he says he’s going to touch off a nuke?
That would be the dreaded triple-dog dare.

…met with fire and fury… blah blah… met with fire and fury and quite frankly power!
[/QUOTE]
Little Donald is so good at alliteration! But what does ‘quite frankly power’ add to fire and fury?
And, did anyone else hear in their head, “no one expects the Spanish Inquisition!” When he adds that part?
in a minefield.
So here’s my question. What can we do? The only thing I can think of to possibly fix this situation is to call our congressperson and demand impeachment. To use the fear of God on these guys, pointing out that Trump is about to get us into World War III, and people they know and care about may die.
That instability goes away once we get Trump out of office. Even Pence is more stable than Trump, and can disavow Trump and say he was just a crazy old loon trying to start a fight. And literally anyone would provide more stability to our own military than this senile old man who wants to go out in a blaze of glory, and fuck everyone else.
I’m tying to not sound alarmist. Because I know that’s not what anyone needs. I’m just saying that the deadline is up, and we can’t wait on this impeach Trump thing anymore. This is the situation that I’ve been saying we need to get rid of him for. This situation was the big fear when he was elected.
I hope (but don’t really expect) that Congress would get more serious about that “constitutional thing” that governs declarations of war, and also tighten the rules about how far a president can go with “police actions”, “adventures”, etc…

Unless one of those Demoncrats is running things, of course.
It’s the Fifth Commandment. Thou shalt Kill.
:smack:
There are exceptions for war. That is why the president has spiritual advisors.
I read the whole thread. But I felt God’s voice needed to be represented.
I wonder if NK tipped their hand by naming Guam, and that’s the extent of their reach. Surely Hawaii would be more attractive target; more military personnel, more civilians.
Solely lobbing a nuke at Guam is a completely unlikely scenario, anyway. Then what? Wait until the U.S. bombs the shit out of North Korea? Kim Jong-un knows that launching nukes in any direction will result in the complete obliteration of every military, government, and industrial site in the country. Nuking Pyongyang wouldn’t be the immediate response, in fact it might not happen at all. The fallout could imperil the surrounding countries. The bombing campaign it would provoke would make “shock and awe” look like a slap fight, though.
If NK was going to launch a nuke, it would be the beginning of it’s own suicide…they would launch everything they have, conventional and nuclear, at multiple targets.
“Our chief weapons are fire and fury. And power. Fire, fury, and power. And fire.”
So the Secretary of Defense just released a statement to NK basically saying they must cease all nuclear actions or they’ll face the end of their regime and the destruction of their people.
Wonderful.
Not according to these guys unless that’s changed in the past couple weeks.
“And an almost fanatical devotion to the Cheeto.”
You better listen to Junior Mod BigT. He is the conscious of this board after all.
I’m aware of that, but I was thinking along the lines of what they view as possible right now. If they tried to bomb New York and the ICBM landed in Hudson Bay, that might be a little embarrassing.
So this makes you the unconscious of the board, I guess.
Oh, THAT will calm things down…!
Anyone else have more oil we can throw on the fire?
No. Trump signed an executive order on January 27 initiating a nuclear posture review. The review isn’t even complete; such reviews typically take many months and issue a multiple volume report on the capabilities, estimates of operational availability and reliability, and recommendations for modernization, retirement, and new development. Then-President Obama initiated such a review in 2010 and then-President GW Bush before that in 2002. It’s part of a general posture review when a new administration takes over or a signficant change in strategic world posture (e.g. the fall of the Soviet Union) occurs.
The weapons and delivery systems in the strategic Active and Reserve Stockpiles are essentially the same as they have been since the last review, save for ongoing retirement of some older, obsolescent weapon systems, regular low rate production of the UGM-133 ‘Trident II’ SLBM, and the B-61 gravity bomb modernization program (upgrading existing B-61s with new insensitive ordnance, electronics, and updated PALs). There has, as far as I am aware, been no new initiatives to modernize or upgrade existing systems and not even a firm proposal to develop and deploy any new ballistic missile or other delivery systems, nor could such an initiative be done in the span of a few months or just by executive order as it would require discretionary funding in a budget approved by the US Congress.
In other words, the claim is more incontestably wrong nonsense from an intransigent bullshiter, intended to make him look accomplished and impressive to people who don’t know any better.
