The only thing I can think of that I frequently envy is the ability to play a musical instrument. I took piano lessons for a year as a kid and then quit; I wish now – how many times have you heard people say this? – that I had continued. Or taken guitar lessons. Or violin, or something.

A lack of personal responsibility. I’ve got one that gets me up for work at 6:45 in the morning after turning down copious amounts of weed and alcohol the night before. Taking classes by professors who don’t care whether or not you show up to class. The ability to quit my job for some bullshit reason with no notice, then call mommy and daddy and tell them how hard my life is so they’ll send me money.
Sure, I’m practicing “real-world” skills, but I feel like I’ve had enough practice and just want to black out for a few days every once in a while.
Funny how a six figure salary can improve ones sex appeal.
I’ve been a management consultant for over ten years and I would hardly consider myself hateful and immoral. Mostly I’m just sarcastic and amoral.
Come to think of it, there are times when I envy people who know people other than I-bankers, lawyers, consultants, traders or junior executives.
My first car was a 1980 Ford Pinto. I was glad to have a car, but it seemed like the lamest car imaginable. For about half of my 20’s, I really thought I had the ‘Ford Pinto Life’ because lots of stuff reminded me of that Pinto, basically I felt my whole life was just embarassingly mediocre. I envied people who didn’t have to slog through life to get what they wanted.
