What things won't newspapers or magazines normally print?

Of course this is related to the cartoons, but enough of those threads exist. I’m just looking for examples of what newspapers/media normally refrain from printing because of laws or just respect.

Pornography - generally I don’t see much (never) of this in the daily rag.
Nudity - USA pretty much never, Europe does show boobies and butts.
Nazi symbols and symbolism - USA maybe; Europe, I’ve never seen a picture of a skinhead going Seig Heil! I think it is illegal.
Princess Di - I remember there was a worldwide boycott of the snuff pics out of respect for the Royal family. Never seen any pics of it ever.

Any others?

No rules, it’s up to each publication’s editorial policies. The only thing that the law affects is libel, and possibly some local laws regarding obscenity.

Jyllandsposten in Denmark refused to print cartoons featuring Jesus on the grounds that it might offend their readers. Sorry, but someone was going to say it. Other than the standard “hate speech” filters, I can’t imagine much else that is not printed in newspapers, except things that are deemed to encourage illegal activites (drugs, paedophilia… is bestiality illegal?). I’d think America shows considerably less nudity in the media than Europe …you big prudes, you.

We have an unwritten rule here in Iceland of not naming or picturing people connected with crimes until they have been found guilty of something or, at the very least, until they are charged with something. I don’t read enough foreign papers to know if that’s the case “out there”, though, and I doubt it is. This is a considerably bigger deal in a nation of 250,000 than one of 250,000,000, obviously.

It may vary but here in the USA some names in criminal cases are not printed - rape victims, children and sometimes witnesses.
For example - “The 15 year old male was also questioned by police.”
But the name of adults are used when arrested or even before that, when questioned or if police are looking for a suspect.

As for porno - the ads for ladies undergarments are very close. Why can’t I see almost naked young men in provacative poses in my morning paper?
