Hi what are the best ways to hide or remove female facial hair? The female concerned thinks that getting rid of it would make it worse… I think that would only be the case if she shaved it since you’d get rough stubble. I think waxing would result in smooth regrowth since the hairs are pulled out rather than trimmed.
What about bleaching (or whatever it is called)? What about laser hair removal? I was wondering which ways are fairly cheap and easy to redo or are permanent… and the methods shouldn’t make it worse in the long run.
Bleaching works pretty good, but it isn’t permanent so you have to re-bleach frequently (every couple of weeks or so). I have heard (but haven’t tried this myself) that electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal method. Laser hair removal is supposed to be permanent, but research says that is questionable, and it’s fairly expensive. Waxing works pretty well if she can tolerate the pain of yanking all the hair out, but then you get re-growth that you kind of have to live with until it’s long enough to wax again. You could combine that with bleaching in between waxes.
Why does she think getting rid of it would make it worse?
Practically? Plucking. Other than that, double-check that the female does not have polycystic ovarian syndrome and have 'er take some hormones if she does.
Electrolysis is the best solution, IMO. It IS permanent. There’s a very slight chance of a particular hair not getting killed off, but it’s so small as to not be worth worrying about. Laser hair removal, on the other hand, is far more expensive and far less permanent, with significant regrowth after a few months. Legally (in the US), laser hair removal can’t be called permanent, though electrolysis can.
Waxing/plucking lasts a long time. However, plucking needs to be done one hair at a time. Waxing will remove quite large quantities of hair, but it will also remove the very top layer of skin, which might or might not be advisable. At any rate, it’s not a good idea to wax very often. I’ve also had an allergic reaction to a wax treatment…I broke out in hives. I’d rather be a bit fuzzy!
Yep, electrolysis for permanent removal, waxing for non-permanent but possibly thinner and softer re-growth over time. Plucking is just as good as waxing but not practical if there is a forest to remove.
not on everybody, every bleaching method I’ve ever tried (including under medical supervision) irritated my skin while the hairs went “nyah, nyyyyyy-ah!”
Plucking is good if it’s only a few hairs, Nair makes facial wax strips which work very well (they only need body heat, rub them between your hands until the wax softens before applying), electrolysis for permanent removal (note that there will be new hairs being grown eventually as part of the aging process).
Maybe. On ladies I know it became a permanent solution after a few treatments. On one, she went about 8 years ago. A few hairs (this was on her chin) grew back, so she returned maybe 2 or 3 times over the ourse of a couple of months and then never had to return. It is a permanent solution.
I wonder if, similar to this electrolysis for that lady, if plucking would’ve eventually been a permanent solution?
Seconded. My wife is a doctor who treats women with hirsutism. I just asked her, and she said PCOS is one of a couple of potentially serious conditions that are associated with female facial hair growth. JohnClay, you might suggest your friend visit a Reproductive Endocrinologist.
Laser hair removal works best (so I’ve been told - it didn’t work for me) if the woman has a fair complexion and dark hair.
Electrolysis does work but it’s also painful. None of the beauticians around me do it anymore. They’ve all gone over to electrolysis, probably because it’s more profitable.
Also, the ‘best’ solution for your friend depends on where the hair is. If it’s upper lip, I’d go for waxing. It is painful as well but less so with successive treatments and the hair growth does become less over time.
If the problem is an individual hair here and there (chin, cheek etc) I wouldn’t go for waxing - electrolysis or plucking would be my preferred option.
I’m not a beautician, just an unwanted facial hair sufferer.
If the lady friend finds plucking too painful, bleaching too irritating (or ineffective - after a certain point you just have a white girly moustache instead of a dark one), and eletrolysis too expensive…
Hitting the hair with a razor will also work and no, it won’t make it grow back thicker. You can wind up with stubble, but usually (baring some highly unusual circumstances) nothing like a man’s. So if she regularly shaves pits/legs/whatever she can just hit a few stray hairs with the razor to take care of them.
I realize this whole razor-on-a-woman’s-face is taboo, but I’ve known a couple of women for whom that became the go-to way to deal with the odd hair or slight fringe.
Really, there are multiple methods to deal with this and she should try several until she finds what works best for her.
I use a mix of waxing and plucking. Wax gets rid of most of the hair, tweezing removes the ones I miss and also the pesky ones that appear mid waxes. I find the least painful tweezing technique is a quick jerk to one side, practice makes perfect.
