Not much happens in this city come New Years, and I think that it is by design. In the 27 years that I’ve lived here, not once have I ever known of a Times Square-like New Years blowout happening here. That is why I make it a point to make my own blowout here at home.
So nothing at all going on at the Queen Mary or Santa Monica?
The only sizeable grouping of people on New Year’s Eve that I know of are the people who camp out on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena waiting for the Rose Parade.
LA is not a New Year’s Eve kind of town.
I’ve never gone out on New Year’s Eve so I don’t know from first hand experience about events, but I have heard about the First Night events. They sound like fun. I googled “first night” + CA and there is one in Fullerton . There are other cities if you want to look.
