Well what?
A group of us have to travel a fair old way to Little Rock Arkansas for a few meetings, and will be sat there overnight.
Any good bar/food place recommendations?
cheers

When I was last in Little Rock, we went to a very nice place downtown. Darned if I can recall the name of it, though. Seems like it had an Italian or French name.
The Afterthought has Jazz on Monday nights.
Fu Lin is a good Chinese place 200 N. Bowman Road.
Sim’s Barbecue 1307 Barrow Road.
Highly recommended:
The Butcher Shop for great steaks. Shogun for great Japanese steaks, teppan yaki style.
And the Dixie Cafe is just all around good eatin’.
Go see the headquarters of the American Taekwondo Association at 6210 Baseline Rd.
Do’s (Pronounced Doe’s) is known as being a favorite of Clinton’s. I found it a better than average burger joint. Hunter S. Thompson accused him of putting his face into the basker of fries there, but God bless him, he’s dead.
Where will you be staying? There are some really good restaurants in LR, I miss them. Brave New Restaurant is great, and has a deck overlooking the river (20-40$/plate) (Kind of hard to find if you don’t know where to look). Acadia is also excellent (3000 Kavanaugh Blvd), similar price range. *Damngood pies * (Cantrell) has excellent pizza and $1 PBRs (if you can stand cheap beer). I haven’t been to Graffiti’s on Cantrell in a few years, but it was good Italian the last time I did. *The Flying Saucer * in the Rivermarket is good (hundreds of beers available, pretty good food), as are the piano bars. If you want to go out at night, the River Market is your best bet.
Oh, and http://www.juanitas.com/ has good food and music.
Leave?
I prefer Fu Lin’s to the new P.F. Chang’s that opened up recently. They have a buffet lunch every Sunday and it’s pretty good if you can make it. Avoid Chi’s at all cost. The only restaurant that I almost walked out of without paying.
If you have time you should visit the Old Statehouse Museum and the Clinton Library. Even if you’re not a fan of Clinton the library is well worth the trip.

I love Chi’s! What was your problem there?
I always eat at Star of India when I’m in LR. It’s a bit variable, but it’s always good, sometimes excelent. It was also the first place I worked, when I was in High School. (I was the bussboy.)
There’s a great fish place in the River Market area. I think it’s called “Flying Fish” or something like that.
I second the Clinton Library recomendation. There’s also an IMAX theater near the airport. And if you do go to the American Taekwondo Association, tell them Mrs. Lee’s stepson says hi to her!
Ditto.
Is Do’s the place that’s kind of built over a stream or swamp? That has all-you-can-eat catfish? If it is, I’ve been there. It was pretty good.
I recommend forcing a random woman to take you home and feed you. The best meals we had in Little Rock were home cooking, and they were amazing. I think I gained five pounds in five days.
I was spelling it wrong; Doe’s . Can’t make the link behave. It is location G on map 7.
It is on Markham street a few blocks from the river in a very old building. No streams or swamps.
You might be talking about Cotham’s . The building hangs out over a swamp thing and looks like it’s about to fall in at any moment. It has excellent hubcap burgers, and is sort of an Arkansas trademark thing. We always took out of state guests there for the “real” Arkansas experience. It’s pretty out of the way if he’s staying somewhere downtown or in west LR, though.
Thanks for all the advice,
we are somewhere out in 11000 financial center parkway, which I am geussing is several miles past the back of beyond given our late hotel bookings. Well mapquest tells me it is near intersection of 430 and 630.
Next week we will certainly check out some of the places suggested, the RiverMarket area sounds good, flying beer and fish in saucers could be entertaining as I get to have my bday there as well, yay me
thanks guys n gals

That’s towards the Western edge of the city. There was a big wealthy movement West a few years ago, changing the name of Markham Street to the Markham Parkway and later when small and medium business moved out to fleece, er, service that new population, Financial Center Parkway.
Maybe you can discover what the hell is being built South of 630 around Shackleford.
The food was barely edible and the service was abysmal. At the end of the meal I ended up waiting 15 minutes for a check before getting up and waiting another 10 minutes at the front waiting for someone to pay. I almost left. However, they’re still in business so someone must like them.
