What to do in New Orleans and Louisiana?

Mid July, China wife, bambina (three years old) and I will have 5-7 days in New Orleans. I’ve got to be there for a week of meetings and brainwashing (work stuff), so we’ll go early to see the sights.

What kinds of things are little kids friendly that we should do? What stuff should we do whether there’s a kid or not?

Any good short trips around New Olreans we should consider? For example, decent beach so my daughter can play in the ocean for the first time? Is New Iberia, home to Tabasco and setting for James Lee Bourke novels worth visiting?

I like Zydeco (Nathan Abshire, Clifton Chenier, Buckwheat) and curious if there is any scene easy for a tourist to find?

thanks

Not so much the beach - you are rather inland. You can always drive about 1 hr to Biloxi, nice calm water there and not deep.

In New Orleans, don’t miss the Aquarium of the Americas. Wonderful. Also, Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter. (I’d stay away from Bourbon Street with the kids, unless you WANT to be asked about the sex toys.) The Court of Two Sisters is a neat old restaurant where you eat in the courtyard under the trees. Lots of neat things to do in New Orleans.
