No, definitely not pregnant. I think it was a tamale I ate yesterday at lunch. I started barfing at 11 p.m. and basically haven’t stopped (yes, the “other end” is involved, too). No fever, I’m in a decent if sluggish mood, except for the unpleasant nausea/bathroom visits.
I’ve been sipping ginger ale and having a saltine cracker or two- it actually feels/tastes good, but then I just barf all of that up after about 20 mins. I’ve tried this about 4 times. Should I just stop eating/drinking all together until my stomach settles down? There’s just zero left in my stomach, so I don’t know if barfing up nothing is worse than barfing up something.
It’s too bad, because I don’t think I can ever look at/think about/eat a tamale ever, ever, ever again…
Try Pepto Bismol. The main ingredient, bismuth subsalicylate, is an effective OTC antiemetic. Failing that, your doctor can likely prescribe something more effective.
In my experience, Pepto Bismol doesn’t work nearly as well as Mylanta, and you should be aware that Pepto Bismol can lead to coffee-ground vomit, which is associated with blood in the GI tract and can make medical people rather antsy. (Yeah, I found out the hard way.)
For me, Mylanta works great for indigestion and heartburn, but not so well for nausea. Which is too bad, because it also tastes better. Fortunately, I don’t need either very often.
I think the only way to get a factual response on this is to see a qualified medical professional. While this could be a temporary problem, it could also potentially be serious. If it persists go to an Emergency Room or make a doctor’s appointment.
