I don’t know why I believed kale chips were going to be good.
I had some kale that would probably be past it’s prime in a few days. I was roasting some veggies anyway so I thought I’d make kale chips while cleaning and chopping other veggies. Figured I’d have a couple of evenings of healthy TV watching snacks. I thought “good alternative to popcorn”.
Well, not to me. They are messy and leave green specs everywhere, especially my teeth. And they don’t taste better than kale made any other way, including raw. I like kale a lot. I eat it practically everyday and put it in everything I cook. Making chips does not do for kale what it does for potatoes.
I would rather be eating a kale salad right now. I don’t think I did it wrong and I don’t think I will do it again. Can anyone tell me what I’m missing? I would love to be able to appreciate these “chips” like other people do.
I also thought I’d be dipping kale into hummus right now. I realize now how silly it was to think that, and that I could have done that with raw kale!:smack:
Jim Gaffigan on kale.
“Could we stop with the kale propaganda? That stuff tastes like bug-spray.”
Did you use really wrinkly kale, or the flatter leafed kind? I’ve only had good results with the flatter kale, and used a quick spray with olive oil spray instead of the usual instructions to toss in a bowl. I quite like the chips, but tried with the wrinkly/lacy kind of leaf and it was definitely messier. I like the light crunch and a little parmesan.
That’s hilarious!! I love him. Much more than kale. I do sneak it into food! But only for my boyfriend and I never tell him.
You could probably put it in soup, etc. and it would rehydrate.
I think they’re probably too salty for soup. I’ll try them with eggs and veggie skillet for lunch.
Decent as a scrambled egg topping
Funny, I made them twice. The first time, they were just delicious and I ate the whole batch. The second time, they kind of rehydrated and got chewy in my mouth, not quite so good. If they are salty, rinse them off and throw them in some soup.
