Tomorrow there is a job fair in Santa Clara, and I plan on attending. Having never been to a job fair, I don’t know what to expect. It was described as being a ‘Tech/Medical/General’ job fair (I’m leaning toward the ‘general’ part of that) and I figured that since I still haven’t heard a response from the place I want to get hired at, I might as well widen my search.
So tomorrow morning after my crossing guard shift I plan on stopping at home to change clothes and look as presentable as possible, grab a stack of photocopied resumes, and spend the next four hours at the job fair (until I have to go to my afternoon Crossing Guard shift, basically).
Any tips on making a good impression to recruiters?
We used to have them at the business college where I taught.
They were usually quite successful, and quite a few students got jobs.
I agree with dressing well, taking your resume and treating each conversation as an interview as these booths are generally staffed by people from that company’s Human Resources Department. If they like you and show interest, you have a major foot in the door and a very good shot at getting the job.
Is there anywhere that lists out the companies? You might want to take a look at that and study into a couple of the ones you’re most interested in. That way, when you go speak with them, you can speak knowledgeably of their company or at least mention “I took a look at your website and was interested in …”
Send a follow-up “thank you” email to the people you connect with.
I did both of these things my senior year in college and got offered both of the jobs I tried it with. Now I just need to be offered another now …
