What to feed someone with strep throat?

I used to think that warm saltwater gargles were disgusting, too. Then I found out that I was supposed to use only about half a teaspoon of salt in a cup of water. I was using way more salt than that. When I switched to the new ratio, it was not nearly as unpleasant.

Lipton makes a dried soup mix, called Noodle Soup, which is noodles and chicken broth. Very easy to make, and the noodles are small and soft enough that they’ll slide down easily. It’s actually pretty tasty, too. Sometimes I’ll drink Slimfast if it won’t clog me up with too much mucus. Gelatin desserts are pretty easy on the throat, though there’s almost no nutrition in them, IIRC. However, they do have some liquid in them, and that’s what the patient really needs.

Along the same lines as this, try Welches Juice-Pops. These were my savior when I had step back in the day.

The very first thing I recommended was a warm salt water gargle, but it didn’t happen.

Broth was practically slapped out of my hand.

Success! I offered it peach sorbet. It growled, sniffed, caught it out of the air when I dared approach close enough to toss it, and it is happily munching away at the sorbet it in its cave.

Tomorrow will be 48 hours after the antibiotics. Whew!

Couldn’t find pastina at the store. They did have Acini di pepe, which is about the smallest pasta I’ve seen. Also picked up some Organics broth, but its doesn’ts wants it.

More for me.

Sorry I missed this. After I made soup yesterday, strained out some broth and served it in a cup it was refused after sipping off it. Then before bed the SO poured it back into the soup pot! I was pissed, and re-boiled for 25 minutes. Thanks, but don’t want your disease. I picked up some Comet and have been extra cleaning the kitchen sink. “I didn’t lick the faucet!”
“You might as well have!”

Do you have a spouse or a bear?!?

I know what you mean. My husband alternates between being a toddler and being a bear when he’s sick.

Yeah, toddler x wolverine. That would be about right. Possibly a little cobra mixed in.

I just remembered…Celestial Seasonings makes something they call Sleepytime Tea. No caffeine, and a lot of soothing, calming herbs like chamomile and spearmint. It tastes wonderful, helps rehydrate the patient, and the soothing herbs will help ease a sore throat. I don’t know if it reduces venom spitting, though.

Also a great tea- Throat Coat by Traditional Medicinals. The also have a good one called Gypsy Cold Care IIRC.
