What to know about Windows 10?

I had earlier meant to say that I know that Internet connection over a telephone line is not possible with Windows 10. As noted, I have long since abandoned that.

Win 10 works just fine on a desk top if you poke around with the settings when you install it, or just go back to the settings gear icon and spend a little time turning off all the “helpful stuff” you don’t want after you do the install. Mine is set up to work almost like the previous Win 7 without downloading Classic Shell, but CS might just make that easier. You really do want to click through all the settings and make it not “help” you so much.

It is important to remember, before you tear your hair out, that Win 10’s functionality is geared toward touch screen devices. That is the reason for those damn tiles and other crap. You can get it to look and work like a desktop OS pretty easily, Just realize that the initial settings are targeted at touch screens, for pads, pods, smart phones etc.

As for Edge and Cortana I don’t really use them. The updates can’t really be turned off like previous Win versions. It won’t really let you decide to update manually when or if you want to. If you like to turn your computer off like I do at night or when going to work, you will not have the option to turn it off if there are updates ready to install. You will hit the power icon and have the option of Update and Turn off or something like that, but not a Turn Off option. I don’t want to sit through that process when I am on my way to work so I hit the red power button on the power strip on my computer desk and just kill it. It will then install the updates when you turn it back on.

I have got to say this about Win 10, it recovers from power failure, accidental or on purpose, very well. I just turn the fucker off when I want to and let it go through updates later.
