What to See and Do in Washington DC - an Informative MMP

FCM - me neither. I think it’s because we’re old.

I believe Haze was referring to your forgot-your-glasses rant, rigsy. (I see I’m right. Go me.) I, too, need to make an eye appointment. Maybe I’ll remember to call them tomorrow.

Snow is shoveled. If my brother’s car doesn’t fit into the space I left him, then…too bad.

Snow is actually starting to melt. It’s looking all layered in places (I took pictures). I tried going for a walk and wound up basically walking around the block because there wasn’t enough shoveled to go for a decent walk. And cars are starting to get brave and come out from under the snow, so you can’t walk in the street as easily as you could this morning.

I decided quite a while ago that immigration laws are silly.

Apple crisp was yummy. A little too sweet, but still, yum.

Cute dress, Haze. (Same caveat as rigs…)

Guess I should finish getting the place ready to receive the little brother tomorrow. Not much to do, but still…

GT

Completely forgot the glasses part of my rant (that’s a pretty mild rant, btw)

I’ve never seen Clerks either. Well…I saw the scene with the girl and the corpse in the back room back in high school, but I haven’t seen the rest of the movie yet. It’s on The List.

I spent the day watching Best in Show and YouTube videos. A day well spent!

I’ve proposed marriage many times already. I offer life in the redneck capitol of Nawth Carliner, an income that no shit puts me in the 90th percentile for my county, an affection for Korea and Korean stuff, 7 major universities within 100 miles, a permanent residency visa, and most importantly the ability to appall the parents by getting them a fat, balding, middle-aged white guy as a son in law. Sounds like a deal you can’t refuse…

ETA: Taxen are Teh Suck. I owe the feds a grand (again), but the Virginia refund covers what I owe NC…

This has been a pretty crappy day, all in all. TVMan almost provoked me to physical violence when his solution to helping me get out of his driveway was that I should just not, and stay there another day. And then he mostly watched while I shoveled. Grrr… Really, I’ve gotten over that. But then I came home and made a really, really disgusting dinner. Ugh. And there’s NO CHOCOLATE. Bitch and moan. Bitch and moan. Blah blah blah. Oh, yeah, and I’ve only got 1 measly lunch for 7 people tomorrow. Hardly worth the trouble of trudging through the snow on the sidewalk which I noticed that the plow moron hasn’t touched.

I’m done. I’ll go away now.

Bobbio, now I feel bad about complaining about my taxes.

I’m scared to death that sometime within the next couple of years, we’ll be paying, instead of getting anything back.

I’ll have to start dinner soon. I’m kind of waiting for my daughter’s friends to leave. I wasn’t expecting them for dinner and they’ve been here all day.

Off to check laundry.

Taters, to preclude having to pay, just increase your withholdings. I just had to have an additional $50/pay period held out, although I fear it won’t be enough. At least it’ll have us owing $1300 less. Except we lose the kid as a dependent next year, so I should have more held out. Crap. Stoopit taxes.

Evenin’ Y’all! Back from dindin and ummmm… stuff. I’m sippin’ on my second whisky and soda and I have a buzz. I should not be drinkin’ this I know. Work tomorrow and all. Heck, two won’t kill me. Besides I ain’t sleepified yet. Plus, it sure does taste good. I’m all relaxated.

Speakin’ of corned beef… somebody was up thread… it was Herbs! Next Saturday is our St. Patrick’s [del]pigout[/del] feast at church. Today was the religious celebration bein’ as we couldn’t do it next Sunday which is the closest day to St. Patrick’s Day but is also Palm Sunday which cannot be superseded bein’ as it’s one of the biiiiiiiiiiiig days. Where was I? Oh yeah, next Saturday I will spend all day cookin’ up a big [del]pigout[/del] feast consisting of corned beef and cabbage, “Irish” stew and other nummy stuff. I say “Irish” stew cause it’s really beef stew with lots of root veggies and stuff but not lamb, which is traditional in Irish stew. It’s official name is “St. Patrick’s Church It’s Irish Because We Say So Stew.” Hee. We’re also known for makin’ up batches of dry ingredients for beer bread (just add beer and let rise!). It’s official name is “St. Patrick’s Holy Bread.” Then again, for our way famous bbqs, I am the originator of our semi-homemade baked beans which have been dubbed “St. Patrick’s Don’t Ask What’s In 'Em Just Eat 'Em Baked Beans.” Anywho, next Saturday will be a day of peelin’, choppin’, cookin’ and servin’ whilst delicately quaffin’ green beer, which, by the way, was duly ordered in plenty of time by yours truly cause attention to such important details is a thing I thrive on.

Taters tell us how you make that garlic and chili rub. It sounds nummy!

Oh, and Haze that is one f-aaaaaa-bu-lous dress!

Also, MOOOOOOM all kiddin’ aside about the MOB outfit… if you are more disposed to wearing pants, go for a nice pants suit. I say this because I’m guessin’ you’d more likely wear a nice dressy pants suit again than you would wear a really dressy dress, so from the practical point of view, you’d get more out of a dressy pants suit. Plus, I think a really nice dressy pants suit is a way jake thing on a woman.

I must be gay. Nuttin’ else would explain my tendency to get all opiniony about women’s clothing.

I should probably go to bed now.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

pretty much the chiming in on jngl’s story seems done - but I was out all day - so here’s my 2¢
If she was giving you the impression early on that she preferred you, but gave it away to your friend - that says ever so much more (negative stuff) about her than about your friend. Even if she uses the flimsy excuse that she was still drunk and didn’t realize it wasn’t you until too late - if she really did prefer you, she’d have said so to friend. Therefore, you’re better off without the slut.

Ok, I have updated my journal for my practicum class; added input for my group project and checked to see if there are any class discussion questions for tomorrow. There are none. Good. Time for bubble bath and a good book.

So much for working out.

Swampy, it’s actually a weight watchers flex points recipe, but I’m willing to share.

Frankly, most every recipe I’ve tried from this book has been exceptionally tasty.

Anyhoo, here’s the recipe:

Ingredients (recipe serves four):

Four large garlic cloves, UNPEELED.

One tsp chili powder

1/2 tsp of ground cumin

1/4 tsp dried oregano

1/4 tsp salt

One pound boneless sirloin steak trimmed of all fat

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Wrap the garlic in foil and place on a cookie sheet; roast until softened (about 10 to 12 minutes). Remove the garlic from the oven.

Spray the broiler rack with with non-stick spray. Preheat the broiler.

When cool enough to handle, squeeze the garlic from its skin into a bowl. Add the chili powder, cumin, oregano and salt; stir and mash together. Rub the steak on both sides with the mixture.

Increase the oven temperature to broil. Broil the steak about four inches from the heat until done to taste. Five minutes per side should give you medium.

If you double the amount of rub mixture you can toss it with chunks of zucchini, scallions and bell peppers and broil them alongside the meat.

I haven’t actually tried this recipe yet. Tomorrow will be the first time, however, we have had very good luck with all the recipes we’ve tried from this book.

gets in car, burns rubber down to Jawjuh

Gosh, is the weekend over already?

We spent most of the morning lazing around before finally dragging our sorry butts outside to shovel another foot of snow off the sidewalk from last night’s storming… just in time for the sidewalk plow to do his rounds 15 mins later, no less. Poop. Oh well, at least I got some exercise out of it.

Then our friend C (who shall henceforth be known as CraftyPants) came by for a nice afternoon of Lost-watching (we like to let 2-3 episodes pile up, burn them to disc, and then use them as an excuse to get together and loaf around for a few hours). I made a nice arugula and cashew pesto sauce to serve with cheese tortellini, and Craftypants brought a dessert of baked apples filled with a surprisingly tasty tofu-maple cream.

It was nice to have sunshine later on in the day, I must say, but I’ll complain bitterly tomorrow when I have to wake up in the dark again.

Can has extra day off work plz?

Also forgot to mention that the BIG problem is that I’m pissed at myself. Since I haven’t been feeling good, I haven’t made it to Curves. And I’ve been eating everything in sight. Right now I’m eating ice cream and I’m very afraid of getting on the scale in the morning. That’s really what my problem is right now. I’m mad at me. :frowning:

I’ll take an extra day off too. I’m about ready to crawl into beddie bye. All that shoveling made me tired, I think.

See everyone in the next MMP!

Yes, yes I was speaking of the corned beef, Swampy! The supermarkets do tend to put them on sale close to St. Patty’s day, or at least I’m hoping. Otherwise, they’re a bit pricey for me. But I’m hoping to have some nummy corned beef and cabbage next weekend.

Just out of curiosity MamaTigs, but were you in Delaware or West Virginia to the casinos? I’m thinking Midway in Delaware, because unfortunately downstate in the Harrington area does still have it’s fair share of bigots. :frowning: The same could probably be said of West Virginia, however! ducks the tomatoes from any West Virginians

The weekend is nearly over. Bah! A 47 hour weekend, at that! Double Bah!! LOL I guess I’ll just have to wait until the fall to get my hour back.

I’d say in their 70s at most. Definitely not old enough to have an excuse. Grandmother was 40 years older than them, and she barely got away with it!

Ding ding ding! Yes, Harrington – it’s the closest, their buffet is moderately edible, and Delaware casinos are 100% nonsmoking, which I like.

In an interesting aside, Papa Tigs was the cause of the most excitement their casino security has had in a while – he dropped a cashout ticket for a tidy sum, apparently when he pulled his phone out to check the time; by the time he noticed it was missing, half an hour had passed. He reported it in the hopes that a staff member might have picked it up. No dice, but they checked the machine and the time and the amount to verify his story, then went back and started reviewing security tapes. Before we left for the evening, he was informed that the ticket had been cashed about the time he reported it lost, alas. :frowning: We figured that was the end of it.

However, he got a call earlier this evening – they’ve now located the footage of him cashing the machine out, him dropping the ticket, and the other person picking it up; they followed the footage of that person to another machine where they apparently used a player card, so they know who it is, and are contacting them! To what purpose, we have no idea; in this case, that old adage is, alas, true: Finders keepers, losers weepers. We figure they’re doing this whole exercise to justify their existence to their higher-ups, and presumably suggest they deserve a raise for being so clearly diligent. Plus it beats their usual task of handing out bandaids and paging people to catch their bus back to D.C.  (But they have very nice bandaids!)

Apparently we simulposted, because hers wasn’t up while I was writing mine. Trust me, that was a memorable morning! Although I think SpecialOne definitely won that thread – not the ickiest wakeup, but the most scary.

Now I want apple crisp! My mom made a mean apple crisp when I was growing up; I really should start making it myself. We even have one of those cool apple-peeling machines which takes 90% of the work out of it.

“Dibs on the poontang.” Ah, the joys of colorful language. Reminds me of when snowbunny’s dad was stationed in Korea for a year at a remote base. They ran a bus between that base and Seoul for those who had spouses also doing a tour at a different location; they tastefully called it the “Poontang Express.”

I’ve been working on another one of those interesting Smithsonian jobs today. The last one, I learned all about abstract expressionist painters; this one, I’m learning about Color Block artists and Hard-edge artists and such. Two areas of modern art I didn’t even know existed, let alone who works in that style. See, even working for the Smithsonian is educational!

See y’all in the next MMP!

Anyone still here? home, had 3 cheese chicken for dinner, drinking a few beerverages.

I have more hair, the universities are closer, and we have hockey.

I am, for a little while.

I’m here, kind of. Trying to motivate myself to get some work done before I go to bed.
