What to See and Do in Washington DC - an Informative MMP

All this talk of food… and it’s 9 PM, and I haven’t had supper yet!

And yes, I know it’s all my fault. :wanders off to forage for something to eat:

As for Israeli Porn – you just wait. It’s bound to be a growth industry!

The one place I enjoyed eating it from makes the gravy themselves, from scratch. (Just as they made the tzatziki from scratch… I know, I worked for them for a year.) It’s a small family run donair shop, run by a Greek couple. Now you might think they don’t know how to make poutine (or montreal smoked meat) and they aren’t authentic (sadly, they don’t use cheese curds for the poutine) but they are the best I’ve had anywhere in this province with nice thick beef gravy and thick cut french fries… (They also have the best donairs, and I convinced Bill to make me hamburgers with only pickles, onions and tzatziki on them…)

They were in the same food court where an Indian family sold curry and samosas, a Chinese family made some wonderful chow mein and a lovely lady from Chile made the yummiest empanadas, churros and sandwiches (spiced up with her homemade spread).

sighs I ate my chili, but I want something from there. Ah well.

I’d better distract myself from this train of thought, I’ll get melancholy for food. Back to work.

Good morning all!

Thank you, she looks just like my daughter did when she was a babe.

Hi Nava! Just last night I was wondering what you were up to!

Really, where is Taters?

I’m sorry about your dilemma Haze, and hope that you get things worked out to your advantage.

pie, have the docs given you anything for the pain? Do you indeed have an infection, in which case there should be antibiotics as well. I can’t fathom how or why they are letting this drag on. (((pie)))

Well, the temp is up to almost 40F and its grey and raining. I am home alone, and like rosie am not feeling all that great, so I am going to go lie down and watch a movie. (not sick, just achy)

Ta!

I am posting from the ER waiting room. ironically I just got the call about the ultrasound through my doctor’s office. I guess it makes me feel a little bit better about being here… IT’S NOT TILL FREAKING MONDAY. So… we’ll see what happens while i’m here. please excuse my punctuation, etc. because i am posting from my phone. Anyways, that’s all for now.

Don’t have more than one child. Really.

I just got off the phone with our new dentist (insurance switch) and tried to book 4 appointments that do not conflict with school, my class, my work, their after school stuff, Daughter’s job, #1 son’s HUGE documentary due in March and his work.

Kill me now–I’m reaching for the liquor, stat.

And the pediatrician? Got Daughter an physical appt. Asked re Gardisil. Apparently I have to get a Rx for it, go buy and bring it back for them to inject it. Like hell! I’ll get the damned stuff and poke my daughter myself. Jeesh! (kids, don’t try this at home–I’m an RN: Registered Nightmare, I mean Nurse).

Manha[sup]2[/sup] - I used to live in Vaughan – Concord, to be exact, Clarke & Dufferin. That was a good 20 years ago though, and at that time it was only half developed. (They were only just building the Promenade mall) Haven’t been there in ages though. We have a pretty good local deli in the mall I live behind. Run by a nice older German lady, they carry some good stuff, including some really good Montreal smoked meat and proper caraway rye. It’s a small place but they’ll make you a good sandwich if you ask nicely.

I’m not looking forward to yet another damn storm. I’ve had it up to here with snow and cold. I’m going to write Mother Nature a sternly-worded letter.

Flutterby - I love places that make their own gravy. There are so few around, sadly, and I loves me some gravy, but the good stuff is so hard to find.

Special1 - Are you speaking from a position of experience? [sub]snerk[/sub]

Eeeks! I have my annual review in ~2 minutes. I know I’ve done well, but I always get nervous anyway!

Mmm, smoked meat.
Baby is drolling on shoulder. I guess he likes smoked meat, too.
This is like the puzzle with the boat, the goat, and the lion (or whatever). I want to make goulash, stew, spaghetti sauce, and chili. I have three pots and a slow cooker. One of the pots isn’t big. I need to boil noodles, too.

I have to figure out the most efficient way to prep and cook all of it, in what order etc.

And I should bake a cake for Driving Husband, who will be playing with TNC while I do all this.

Everyone think non-snow thoughts for the end of March, okay? We’ve got people driving up. The weather is ridiculous. Maybe we should have scheduled the baptism for June. It can’t be snowing in June. Right?

Right?

Speaking of weird dreams, I was disturbed by one last night. It involved, among other things, the main floor of the house we live in now and the basement of the house where I grew up, my husband getting a parking ticket for $73 (it was written in big numbers and circled in the dream) and the lady who who empties the trash in our office was my hairdresser! There was also something about a gay guy (not swampy) who moved my medicine cabinet. Too weird.

It’s in the low 70s here, but clouding over, and we’re promised thunderboomers tonight. I decided supper would be homemade mac-n-cheese, since I haven’t done that in eons and it’s easy. Just got off the phone with insurance dude - daughter is covered for another 180 days, so yay! If all goes well, she’ll be gainfully employed before then and covered by the dept of ed.

I came home to the cutest sight (no pic, sorry) Taz and Scruffy were sharing the couch in the family room. I guess they’re buds. Bernie, on the other hand, does not like Taz. At all! She was sprawled on the floor and kitteh walked by her head - Bernie sat up and growled. Those of you who have met Bernie know how out of character that is.

What else? kai, you have yourself one happy grandbaby! Definitely go spoil her!

**Haze ** - why don’t you just elope with doggio and you don’t have to sweat the visa thing, right? No, that would be illegal and not nice. Whatever you do, we’ll still love you.

**CutiePie ** and **rosie ** - feel better!

**Taters ** - come out from hiding!!

Everybody else - group hug!!!

I’m off to make mac-n-cheese…

Ok, so #1 son cannot do that date for the dentist. Ack. I’ll worry about his teeth in April

Pork roast and potatoes in oven. I’m tired! And it’s fricking cold outside-and windy.

I do have snowdrops blooming, though.

I have been here waiting for 2 hours to be seen. my dad is here now so that’s good.

I’m sorry you’re going through so much misery, Pie. {{Pie}}

It’s gotten very grey here, and the temp is starting to drop although it’s still quite warm – I’ve had the house open all day, and it actually was warmer outside than in this afternoon. Of course, I’ll have a neurotically frightened – and presumably by that point heavily drugged – dog climbing in my lap all evening. I’m SO glad we don’t have to deal with the daily thunderboomers like we did in South Lousyana, though; occasional ones I can deal with. And it’s not like the poor dog can help himself. :frowning:

I finally got some work again. More Smithsonian interviews, which should be interesting; also a couple depos that were taken a week ago but not turned in to the office to be transcribed until yesterday, meaning that I end up with a whopping day and a half to get them done. Not to mention the idiot reporter provided NO title page information – zero, zip, zilch, nothing except attorneys’ names, not even the name of the case. So I sent an email to the office pointing this out and asking, point-blank, “So how much more are you going to pay me to get them done on time?” I love making the idiots pay for their idiocy.

Back to work, I guess. Before Rusty freaks out totally. Looks like he’s starting to get nervous. Which isn’t surprising, considering how close that front is getting.

:::vroooOOOOM:::

: waves as she drives by again :

snugs pie Did you bring something to do? Waiting sucks. :frowning:

I got a 5% raise! YAY! Woohoo!! ::flings confetti and buys a round for the MMP::

I flipped through the Brian Williams News last night and they showed a map of Israel with the Gaza Strip outlined and Tel Aviv marked up in the north. I looked at that map, noted the distance, and figured that the outline meant localization.

Complicated Roommate missed his flight in Calgary by 12 minutes (meaning he got to the airport at 7:12 when his flight leaves at 8:00–Terrorist Protection Inaction!) so I’m not driving to the airport tonight. I cussed him out when he called me because I’d already switched shifts tonight, but it looks like it’ll work out in my favor. Nasty storms coming through soon. I’ll apologize when he gets back to Eastern Time tonight.

What all this means is that I’m going to the airport at 7 a.m. tomorrow. At least it’s better than 3 a.m. (officially known as an 3vil Hour).

There was a box containing the entire Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy by Tad Williams waiting for me when I got home, so Yay! Something that’s not Puerto Rican literature!

Mac-n-cheese was pretty good, altho I like it a bit cheezier. The dishwasher is washing dishes, and I just finished closing the house because it’s now cooler outside than in. Back to late winter.

Did I mention that yesterday, **FCD ** brought home some Death By Chocolate ice cream for me? So yum.

Congrats, taxi!!! Woo and Hoo!!!

Still no Taters??? :frowning:

It’s been a pretty blah week so far, I’m off work until Thursday, a half day only (hooray for retail). I’ve mostly been a spud, with bouts of housework. Lots of surfing and video watching mostly.

Yay for raises!

{{{Pie}} hope you can get to the bottom of this soon (so to speak).

You have my sympathy Tigs, my Sparky also freaks out in T-boomers.

I’ve been worried about Taters, as well. The last time she posted was Saturday.

Hugs for anyone in need.

Dinner was great, but I just realized I ate it a tad early. Oh, well. It’s 6-ish somewhere on the Dope.

No call today so I guess I’m on for work tomorrow. I do hope that co-worker whose ethnicity shall remain nameless (actually it has nothing to do with any of this; I just like to pull chains) has gotten her panties out of the wad they were in last week,
I am waiting for a book to come from Powell’s. The Husband just walked in the door. Guess I made dinner at the right time afterall. Too bad the rest of us already ate…

Congrats, taxi! Yay!

I ran into a student on the bus today. He informed me one of his classmates has a crush on me. I told him I didn’t want to know. Really, I don’t.

Exhausted and not in mood to grade papers full of stupid.
