What to wear?

What = 10 year high school reunion.

When = In two weeks.

Why = Kind of curious to see what various people have been up to. I basically haven’t seen any of them since we graduated.

Where = On a boat, of all places.

Me = Absolutely no fashion sense. Not particularly looking to impress - I was poor, but lived in a very high class neighborhood, so I’m sure that there will be designer labels aplenty. And I really can’t be bothered to pretend to be more hoighty-toighty then I am. But I’d like to be appropriately dressed.

Suggestions?

Just wear what you consider to be “nice”. You don’t need to be all logo-ed out. Be comfortable, be you, that’s the best way.

Nice black dress, a little on the sexy side. That’s always been my choice!

When in doubt, wear black. If female, wear a dress. It will never fail you.

I agree on the dress. Black is good, if the color is okay for you. Try a simple one, I mean: not too much hoopla - gold buttons, lace or strange holes at naughty places. Just a simple, good fitting dress. Doesn’t have to be expensive.

Then buy a necklace at a thrift store. Again: A simple one. No fake pearls, gold, diamonds or other shiny stuff. I was a huge success with a tight fitting [dark green] velvet dress, $50, with a necklace made of a black leather string with an old-silver dinosaur on it. [$1]!
Black high heels, black bag.

But ofcourse, when not comfortable in a dress, don’t wear one. But please don’t wear jeans and sweater.

And have plenty of fun, Risha. Remember; There are probably a lot of people wondering what to wear to the reunion, just like you.

I just had my 30th and there was a little bit of everything. The jeans people were last-minute attenders. We had leather suits, long dresses, work clothes, sun dresses…the whole spectrum of coloes.

I’ll give you the wisdom of all my experience over the last 5 reunions I’ve been to.
We usually have three nights…casual get-together at a bar on Friday (grads only), dressy dinner on Saturday(grads and spouse/date) and family picnic on Sunday(grads and family). Your boat thing sounds like the dressy dinner night. Most of the men wear suits, and the women either wear nice dresses (maybe a few spangles, but no formals) or dressy pants with “holiday-type” sweaters or tops.

Unless you married a classmate who has just divorced you, gotten arrested for police brutality, spent a few months in jail and is coming to the party with his female lawyer as his date. Then you wear a slinky, strapless dress with plenty of boobage spilling over the top, spiky heels and hair teased out to there, with a good-looking man on your arm. Accessories are everything!

My reunions are so exciting!

kittenblue, I deeply admire your taste in accessories!

Thanks for your advice all! I needed a starting point, or I would have spent the next two weeks dithering about it. A basic black not-too-formal dress, huh? I think that even I can manage that one.
