I think I saw that one. Michael Landon was the adult runner at the end, right? And he looked really uncomfortable when he credited his parents with inspiring his running skill.
Boy, that’s been awhile.

Sweet! I win!
Chrome star for you!
Speaking of Cheers, this reminds me of one of my favorite lines ever from the show.
Coach is driving to Vermont to get his driver’s license renewed. He chooses Vermont because they won’t make him take an eye test.
Later in the episode, Sam is talking on the phone, and says, “Yes, that’s great, Coach. We’re all proud of you.”
He hangs up the phone, and Diane (I think) asks, “Oh? He passed his driver’s test?”
“No. He found Vermont.”
Bouillabaisseball. It’s played with fish. I think I had all the Bouillabaisseball cards.
Blernsball is from Futurama.
Now this is going to bug me.
I never watched ‘Cheers’ nor do I know the song to which you guys are referring.
But it sure look like you’re right.
Although I’m betting if you dug into definitions food climbed WAY up that list.
And did you know they export 400 tonnes of frogs each year?
Thanks for the correction. As soon as I hit “submit,” I knew that blernsball wasn’t right. I just couldn’t think of bouillabaiseball.
Not a problem. I love Bouillabaisseball.
(Which I guess it kinda weird.)
I think it was from Cheers that I learned all of Emily Dickinson’s poems can be sung to the tune of “Yellow Rose from Texas”. Now I can’t read them any other way.
I remember watching for Les Nessman’s bandages every week on WKRP in Cincinnati
Sometimes, it feels like all of them.
This probably doesn’t qualify for the OP, but the detail that popped into my mind when I saw the Subject Line was a bit from the Richard Pryor show.
He’s interviewing a woman and asks her what she’d like to see on the show. She says “The Pips.” He says something like “You mean Gladys Knight and the Pips?” and she says No, just the Pips".
So he had the actual Pips on the show, and they sang “Midnight Train to Georgia.” There was no lead voice, but the music was the same, and they sang their parts, so you’d just hear things like “Leavin,” “Oooh oooh” and “I know you will.” Maybe you had to be there, but it remains one of the funniest bits I’ve ever seen on TV. I can’t hear the song now without laughing or at least breaking into a grin.
My husband is younger than me and we didn’t watch many of the same TV shows, but he saw that too, and it’s one of the very few cultural touchtones we share, however obscure it might be.
Dirty Harry’s badge number was 2211, and his car’s radio call-sign was “[Detectives or Inspectors] Seven-One”.
I know what you mean - but they can also be sung to the tune of “Gilligan’s Island.” Does that help?
Ben Vereen also played Will Smith’s father on Fresh Prince of Bel Air. While it was established that Will’s mothers and aunts’ family name was Smith, Vereen’s character’s name was Lou Smith. Which I guess is plausible, Smith being a common name.
“Ghost Riders In The Sky”, “Amazing Grace”, and “House of the Rising Sun” also fit.
Monica Geller’s ceramic chef that holds all of her spatulas and spoons is identical to the one on my counter (which I’ve had since ~1987).
Oh yeah - here are a couple:
A Screaming Viking. When Sam (or Woody?) asked Norm how he wanted his cucumber, Normy responded “slightly bruised.”
Beauregard
I could keep going forever - trivia is my life.
Early 90s (like maybe 1991?) Nickelodeon TV show called Salute Your Shorts. The camp counselor’s name is Ug, and he’s dating this postal worker lady named Mona.
There’s a bit of dialogue between the two of them in one episode where Mona says what the zip code for Costa Mesa, CA is. I still remember it: 92626.
Damn!
Heavens, yes. He won the Olympics because he wet the bed. Even as a child, I found that upsetting.
