I’m reading Kurt Vonnegut’s last book, Man Without a Country, and in it he mentions that several years ago he worked for a comedy television series and that he and the other writers incorporated death into every script in a sort of subliminal way- it wasn’t the focus of the episode. He doesn’t name the series, give any idea of the dates, doesn’t say how long he was associated with it, even whether it was successful, etc…, and it’s not on his imdb page.
Does anybody have any idea which series it was?
I do recall him once saying that he’d rather have written Cheers than any novel he ever wrote.
While not an actual comedy series, Northern Exposure mentioned death in almost every episode and had some definite Vonnegutesque touches (Rick’s funeral after being creamed by a falling satellite being perhaps the biggest).
