What Video Games Are You Playing - Fall Edition

I was gifted Ryse son of Rome. Tried playing it last night.

Most boring game ever.

Looks pretty though. I wish Steam gave you a few hours window that allowed you to return or re gift a game.

When you talk about “invisible walls” do you mean the edges of the map where you get a “you can go no further in this direction” message on screen or are you talking about things like heaps of rubble and hills that are mysteriously unscalable?

Straight up invisible barriers blocking you from otherwise traverseable terrain. For example, there’s a Great Khan camp back on a ledge by a quarry full of deathclaws. The back slope of the ledge is a gentle enough slope to climb but if you try to go up it, you hit a barrier because the game wants you to go through the quarry, fight the deathclaws, etc.

The irritating part is that, again, it should be climbable. At least if there was a sheer rock face or chain link fence or something it would be a little less annoying. But there’s parts where you’ll be able to pick out a winding path up a mountain and spend your time working your way up just to get close to the summit and be blocked. Had it been obviously unclimbable due to geography, you never would have wasted your time. Instead, you get up there and just hit an invisible wall. I get that the developers might want you to pass through A on your way to B but invisible walls are a cheap way of doing it and are doubly frustrating in a supposedly “open world” style game.

Anyway, I downloaded a mod last night to remove almost all invisible walls from the map interior. For obvious reasons you want to leave the map borders intact and there’s one or two walls that prevent you from walking into a void.

What’s that mod called? I want it. I’ve played vanilla 3 and NV through several times and never did like the fake difficulty through invisible walls strategy that the designers often used.

Here you are

I haven’t looked to see if it (or a similar version) is available through the Steam Workshop since I’m familiar and comfortable with Nexus.

Still playing the heck out of Borderlands 2, with a little Portal 2 when I get tired of dying, because irony is a powerful force in my life.

I also have Civ 5 and Tomb Raider sitting in my Steam directory, unplayed; I picked up all 4 in the summer sale and just haven’t gotten to them yet.

I’m hoping to pick up Borderlands 2: The Pre-Sequel on sale soon, and see what goes Free to Play as well. I saw a list of ten titles going on FTP this week, but I’d never heard of most of them.

I just finished a replay of Bastion, which was totally awesome. Finally earned the “Earn 1 million points in Score Attack” and “Complete the Stranger’s Dream with all idols invoked” achievements. That was a really, really good game.

I’ve also been playing a lot of FTL over the last couple months. I’m trying to beat the game on Normal with every ship. I think I have Engi B, Slug B, Fed C, Stealth B&C, and Lanius A left.

I occasionally sink 10-20 minutes into One Finger Death Punch, which is only $5 on Steam and is quite a lot of fun. The feel of the combat is excellent, the rules are simple, and it has a nice difficulty curve. Very well designed, and it’s easy to play a match or two and not get too sucked in. It’s basically a 2D, stick-figure version of Arkham Asylum’s combat, with the veneer of a vintage martial arts movie. Kind of like playing out one of those fifteen year old flash animations on Newgrounds where the stick figures get into elaborate fights.

Oh, and I played through the original Metal Gear Solid last week. That game felt a lot deeper when I was in high school, but the gameplay was still as fun as I remember, and the story, while silly, was at least interesting.

I’ve got a bunch of other games on my wishlist but I keep waiting for the Steam Fall Sale to start.

Not sure there is one - I’d expect the next sale to be the Winter (Christmas) Sale in about two months.

Thanks. I go through Nexus as well.

Huh…I am also playing Fallout NV again.

I usually play with a high sneak, lockpick, etc. and end up skulking and sniping in games like this.

This time I decided to play the opposite, and went with melee/unarmed. For the first dozen or 15 levels, those were the only skills I used points on.

I have never been more of a badass in a Fallout game, it’s super fun.

Looking forward to Borderlands Presequel, but I’m waiting to get a new gaming PC instead of playing it on Xbox.

There’s a Halloween sale on the 30th (and through the weekend, I assume). But that’ll be games with some connection to horror, zombies, monsters, etc. There was a leaked Valve/Steam document to publishers asking them to submit their sale game requests.

The MMM mod for 3 and NV imposes some real challenges on both sneaking/sniping and melee type characters. You will, from time to time, encounter good sized mobs of high level enemies. Last night, I blundered indoors into a group of super mutants that had three overlords, two with tri beams, as part of its forces. Now, if you are using the Chinese stealth armor_a real game breaker_it is possible in this situation to just crouch down and spend an extended amount of time plinking at them with the dart gun or a silenced weapon. Without the CSA, you’re in a difficult spot here as a sneaking/sniping character. As a melee brute, you are in a better position, but those tri beams eat you up fast. It’s great to have to worry about my character’s safety again and not just be Death’s Wind blowing through the Wasteland.

I just beat Borderlands 2 last night, and had a lot of fun with it. But I think I’m gonna shelve it for a while and then start back up in a month or 3 as a different character.

Next on the list is Dishonored. I started playing it in tandem with BL2, but I have the memory of a amnesiac golfish, so I can’t remember anything from it. But I wasn’t too far into it and I’ll just restart it.

Maybe tonight.

I am really wishing I had a PS4 because I’m hearing bombastic things about Destiny and would love to play it

Destiny runs quite nicely on PS3 and 360 too

Shhhhhh on that
I’m trying to find an excuse to buy a 4. Don’t kill it with your logic and clear-headed thinking

Oh okay. IIRC they didn’t have a Halloween sale last year so I thought they had retired that tradition.

Aside from being extremely busy, I still find time to play an hour or two of Trouble in Terrorist Town (TTT, a Garry’s Mod game mode) and CS:GO. I also play Arma 3, Dayz SA, Democracy 3 and Kerbal Space Program fairly regularly. It all depends on how my week is going. I’m ready for another Fallout, but I appreciate how Bethesda is taking their time (unlike Ubisoft).

Last year there was another sale for Black Friday/Thanksgiving. I think that one was a one-week sale. I mainly remember because there was harumphing after a different memo leaked saying that the sale prices for both the Fall and Winter sale would be the same (no deeper Christmas discounts). No idea if they’re doing it again this year but I sort of assume so.

What?

From who?

Everyone pretty much says it’s borderlands 2 minus the content, the story, the cool loot, or the interesting characters.

Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare on PS4. 1080P @ 60fps.

Probably the most underrated PS4 game right now.
