Valkyria Chronicles (PC): I had never owned a PS3, so missed this. A wonderful game that has probably ruined all other turn-based-tactics games for me. I’m getting some weird glitches in graphics and sound, but nothing game-stopping.
Legend of Grimrock 2 (PC): Fun hardcore Eye of the Beholder style dungeon crawler game. It desperately needs a hot-key macroing type of function, misreading a mouse click between frames and dragging weapons randomly about in the middle of battle is getting old. Otherwise, very enjoyable.
Hex (PC): Closed Beta of the game. MtG style card game. I’m not a card game expert, but am managing to win enough games that feel tipped more in strategy than on dumb luck. There are a lot of opponents with weird-ass gimmick decks that seem brokenly overpowered though. I’ll keep playing this and following it as they add more features.
To those who’ve mentioned ME, I would like to once again plug the MEHEM (happy ending mod). I recently played through the series (it feels like coming home, for me), and I really enjoyed the ending the mod gives. It has nearly as many problems as the canon endings, but it’s, well, much happier, and pays respect to an important aspect of the series that is all but ignored in the official endings.
I’ve been thinking of changing my SDMB handle to Conrad Verner.
I also just finished the Star Trek game (2013). Horrible console port of a media tie-in game. Bleah. I paid like 3 buck for it, which is probably fair.
I’m currently playing Spec Ops: The Line. Fantastic game so far. There’s some really cool subtle stuff going on - I like the way the characters’ comments during battle grow more intense and stressed as the game progresses. I was pretty shocked when I accidentally shot the civilian woman. I think the thing that got to me the most about that was that the game made no note of it.
All of this while taking a break from the EE of Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2. A nice nostalgic throwback, but, boy, does it get tedious if you’re a completionist like me.
