What was in my Mango?

Just tried a new variety of mango called ‘ATAULFO’
Mango (cite: http://freshmangos.com/varieties.html)…in various places well away from the core I found really odd bits (1inch long, perhaps 1cm in diameter) of ‘growth’ with the color of cooked chicken. I can’t tell you what they taste like as I stopped eating the mango at that point…I can tell you its not part of the skin or pit as I’ve dissected both. I’ve eaten lots of mangos before but never this variety.

Now I’m worried some horrible infestation was in my mango and I’m dying to find out what was wrong with it?

mango mango?

Perhaps if you posted pictures…

My guess would be that if someone knew of a mango that had chicken-colored bits in it they would have responded. So…you might want to brush your teeth a few more times.

I recently cooked a big batch of Mango Chicken but I guess Indian food isn’t what you mean.

don’t ask’s cooking has caused a transmatter warp.

“Hey! You got mango in my chicken!”
“Hey! You got chicken in my mango!”

Johanna: Thanks for clearing that up, I can sleep easy now.

Um…

…worms?

Sounds like it might have been some sort of insectoidal grub/larva thing to me.

I wouldn’t have finished eating it, either.

: hurk :

Mango Worm?

We REALLY need that barfing smiley they’re clamoring for over in About.

Due to Popular Demand, we now have a picture!
Weird Mango

So what is that a picture of exactly?

Something really, really, really disgusting. I don’t think I’ve ever seen fruit look so hideous.

alright now I’m kind of scared…should I be seeking medical attention?

To be honest, it looks like a perfectly normal bad spot, possibly due to mold or something. That picture was just revolting, though – like a full-screen landscape of phlegm.

better picture

What does the skin of the fruit look like?

Does it have any discolouration?

Skinned look just like the mangos in the 1st pic ( http://freshmangos.com/images/3atualfos.jpg )…yellow, no discoloration.

Last week I was halfway through a strip of buffalo jerky when I saw that an entire side of the strip was stark white with mold. HALFWAY THROUGH. Eww!

Just wanted to commiserate. You’re not alone. Hang in there. It might make you feel better if you take it the rest outside and set it on fire.

Dude, that’s a weird picture. Maybe it’s a body snatcher pod that just started to gestate. I second the recommenation to burn it.

FIRST of all, the title of this thread made me laugh. Then I got to the post that claimed that the image was a BETTER picture. A BETTER picture of a strange chicken colored growth inside a paritially eaten fruit. Now, I ask you. Is that somthing that could be considered better than anything? I’m going to go away for a while. And when I come back, this thread better be gone. And I’m not kidding. xo, C.

Does it smell like a regular mango in there? Is the chicken part \all gooey like the rest or all dried up?

Your photo looks like it could be still shots from that Winnie the Pooh colonoscopy show they did last year.
