Well, I don’t know mangoes specifically, but it looks like a fairly unremarkable rot or mold to me. So you were right to not eat it, and you might want to look a bit more carefully than usual at any other fruit from the same batch, but I wouldn’t really be too worried about it.
If you’re really curious about it, take a thin slice and look at it under a microscope. If it’s made up of a sort of random mesh of fibers, then it’s probably a mold.
It looks just a bit bruised or moldy.
I’ve observed contiguous polyps within green and red peppers that had a “meaty” texture, that were just an indication that the pepper was making babies.
Whatever you do, don’t buy any fruit from Kazakhstan.

Ataulfos are sold around here as “honey” or “champagne” mangos. They are by far the best tasting variety I’ve ever eaten. But I’ve never seen anything like what you have there, and I’ve eaten aplenty of them. I will henceforth be somewhat cautious in my zeal for the little yellow treats.
