What was that movie in last night's daily show?

Last night Lewis Black showed clips from what looked like a cheesy Asian movie, purportly made on behalf of Kim Jong Ill. This I somewhat doubt, but the movie looks like it could be cheesy fun at some late night fun fest.

Anyone know what it is and if it indeed has late night B-movie potential(as opposed to just being stupid)?

PULGASAR!

That is to say, “Pulgasari!”

Cussed last letter got cut off with the obnoxious coding. Sorry.

Wow. I’m surprised. I thought that was a joke. I guess I was wrong.

Is the movie any good(in a regular or fun B-movie sense)?

The trivia section at IMDB says

It must reflect badly upon my character that I find this so sidesplittingly funny.

My favourite double feature ever was Pulgasari and Warlord.

Pulgasari is just about what you’d expect from what you saw on The Daily Show. It’s frickin’ strange, and is full of heavy-handed communist propaganda. And rubber suit action.

Warlord is a better movie, but just as weird. Borrows a lot from Star Wars, except that it’s actually set in feudal Japan. Except there’s laser battles and robo-ninja. Laser battles and robo-ninja that actually look incredibly cool, for a low budget feature – while the special and practical effects in Pulgasari are mainly entertaining through their incredible inadequacy.

Anyway, sorry for the digression.

If you like B movies, you’ll love Pulgasari. It kicks ass.

No, I think it’s funny too. I do feel bad for the guy Kim Jong Ill Kidnapped though.

What is it with ditatorships and bad(intentional or not) movies? You’d think with all the resources of the state, they could make some good movies. Or is making good movies “Counter-revoluntionary” and “capitalistic”?

I think Kim Jong Ill is kind of cute.

Too bad he’s so ronery.

It’s his own damn faurt he kirr Hans Brix.

On the whole, no doubt you’re right. But few people ever accused Leni Riefenstahl and Sergei Eisenstein, to name two, of being bad filmmakers.

Actually, the Battleship Potempkin, though I haven’t seen it(I want to though), came to mind. Maybe it’s just sheer volume. Hollywood puts out so many movies that some of them are bound be great
