What was the deal with the tv series Inhumans?

I’ve never been a comic book fan. Seven or eight years ago my wife and I decided to watch everything Marvel, in timeline order. Inhumans was part of that, and we stuck it out. We’d never heard of any of the characters before, so things like the queen’s head being shaved didn’t mean anything to us.

My memory of it was it was just… dumb. Like a kids’ show, where they didn’t bother trying to make things consistent, let alone make sense. I think in the first episode, it was established that the moon dwellers kept up with what life on Earth is like through television broadcasts. But then later, Dude gets a suit tailored for him, and thinks he can just walk out of the store without paying (and then causing a major incident in Downtown Honolulu). Dumb. Or the queen shouting at an ATM: “I’m the queen! Give me money!” Dumb. And then there’s the villian - he had no powers, and the rest of the Moon dwellers looked upon him with disdain. And yet, when the plot called for it, suddenly he has enough support to overthrow the government? Dumb.

The funnier one is “Black Bolt” just being a shortened version of his name Blackagar Boltagon.

It was so excruciatingly bad in every way (watched it way later on streaming) but I loved watching it. Had a great time staring in horror that it was made. There are official Marvel projects that are objectively better but that I didn’t have as much fun watching.

I’m aware that it’s his name – it just seems inappropriate under the circumstances.

Where did you get the information that Stan and Jack were guided by the original etymology? “Gorgon” just meams “grim”

Stan likely devoted all of two seconds thinking up names for new characters by 1965. Gorgon was the first Inhuman to appear after Medusa, and Stan (maybe Jack) probably decided on a Greek Mythology naming scheme for the Inhumans. They probably lost the thread after naming Triton. They were very busy men.
