I was going to sign on to the Season 8 quotes, but I do actually use this one from time to time. So that’s my new vote.
Widely quoted as in used all the time by Simpsons fans or widely quoted as in seeped into the general culture beyond Simpsons fans, kind of like I know a dozen Monty Python quotes even though I don’t care for Monty Python and haven’t seen much of their TV show (I knew half the quotes in Holy Grail long before I’d ever seen it).
I’ve never been a regular Simpsons watcher and so far none of the quotes mentioned in this thread, except for Worst.Episode.Ever, are things where if someone said them I’d know that they were quoting something, let alone what.
Although now I see that “Stupid Sexy Flanders!” comes from Season 11. I think that’s pretty widely quoted, no?
Yea, I think I saw someone use a play on this in a magazine article just the other day. Seems a good candidate.
I remember the flammable - inflammable one, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone else use it.
For anyone not cool enough for the shorthand . . .
Season 12, Episode 18
Season 10 Episode 19
And these two quotes “inflammable” and “Stupid Sexy Flanders” are the most recent examples in this Thread that I agree as being widely quoted- with “Stupid Sexy Flanders” being the stronger candidate of the two.
I think obfusciatrist offers a good standard for how this should be judged:
IMHO Season 8 is the best one, lots of classic episodes. Not being as good in the future is not the same as a fall.
How is that last one specifically a Simpsons quote? It’s a paraphrase of Ray J. Johnson’s standard schtick.
“Nothing at all!” Shudder…
Season 11 gave us “Jebus”.
Season 12 gave us “Put down that science pole”.
Good one. It comes from Season 11, Episode 15, while sexy flanders comes from Episode 10. So I move “Jebus” is the best candidate for an answer to the OP so far.
