It was an HBO movie, but Strip Search had very integral, and very uncomfortable nudity.
Yes. What a putz I was. Damn similar titles.
A 1976 Japanese movie (that could not be shown unedited in Japan) called “In the Realm of the Senses,” which told a supposedly true story about an obsessive sexual relationship before WWII, had not only full frontal nudity of both sexes, but actual sex acts on screen. It was not pornography (no close-ups, for one thing) but it did have a tough time getting shown in some parts of the world. Although the story could have been told less graphically, the nudity and sex was pretty much the entire story.
One bit of hypocrisy and irony in the Japanese movie biz: the lead actor, Tatsuya Fuji, suffered no ill effects on his career from this film, even though we saw his willy both soft and hard, and in use, during the film. He is still a busy working actor today. But his leading lady, Eiko Matsuda, was nearly blackballed for her part, and only worked on a few more films, the last one in 1982. She died in 2011.
Are we still doing phrasing?
Kathy Bates getting into the hot tub in “About Schmidt.”
I saw that movie on opening weekend and we did not know that scene was in the movie. The only other time I’ve heard a movie audience howl that loudly in reaction to a scene they didn’t know was in the movie was the “choking on vomit” sequence in “This Is Spinal Tap”, the first time I saw it in a theater.
The above reference to “uncomfortable nudity” reminded me of the film Babel. I will not attempt to summarize or characterize it further, it really merits watching.
N.B.: It is heartbreaking.
And most any movie regarding the Holocaust and the like. (Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS and such, excluded.)
The Magdalene Sisters had a scene where a priest examines the–prisoners? Inmates? Not sure how to describe their status–in the shower. It was very comparable to a similar scene in Schindler’s List.
A nude Arnie arrives from the future in Terminator.
In The Crying Game, Dil’s intentionally startling nude scene is absolutely essential to the plot.
Ninja’ed AGAIN!
The Creature from the Black Lagoon, for obvious reasons.
This is the one I came in to mention. Male and female prisoners, all ages, shapes and sizes, being paraded in from of the Nazi doctors, to determine which ones might be useful workers.
But the girlfriend nudity was absolutely gratuitous and out of character for Spielberg.
A Room With a View. The full frontal nudity scene of the village vicar cavorting with the younger boys in a totally non-sexual way in the swimming hole, just letting go and succumbing to the simple joy of the moment, humanized him in a wonderful way.
Maybe my all-time favorite film ever.
Yes, you just reminded me of The Pawnbroker.
Since Halle Berry has been mentioned in the other thread for “Swordfish”, she should be mentioned here for “Monster’s Ball”.
There’s an HBO/BBC movie about a dirty bomb going off in London. I forget the name of the movie, but it’s very well done. There is a scene of random citizens being decontaminated before they are allowed to leave the area. Everyone is stripped of their clothes and they go through a very harsh shower. There is no segregating of the sexes or anything. It is very dehumanizing.
Karen Allen in Invasion of the Body Snatchers: Gratuitous or no? I could go either way.
