What was this 1970s American TV show called?

I have never seen an episode of this, so can’t give detailed information, but I need to identify a TV show in America in the 1970s (or possibly the 1960s) that was about gangsters during Prohibition.

The hero, a private detective, played piano incognito in the club where the gangsters hung out.

That’s all I know - thanks for any help!

You are probably thinking of an episode of The Untouchables.

Might also have been The Roaring Twenties (1960).

Elliot Ness wasn’t a private detective, and he didn’t play the piano on a regular basis. I don’t think The Untouchables is it.

Free for your tuition: Robert Stack was on the US Olympic Team. His sport: shooting.

“The Chicago Teddy Bears” (1971), maybe?

None of those, sorry! I’ll know it when I see it’s name…

Reason for asking: I’m trying to find my dad who lives somewhere in L.A. I remember he lived in Laurel Canyon when I saw him in 1987, and that he was renting a house from an actress then.

The actress’s name I am not sure about, but I have it from my aunt that she starred in a popular TV series of the above description, and that he was still in contact with her just 4 years ago. Hence she will be useful to find. We think it was Ruta Lee (her name sounds right to us, and she does live in Laurel Canyon) but her filmography does not list the show. So it could be someone else completely, with a similar name.

“Johnny Staccato”, starring John Cassavetes, 1959-1960.

Here’s the link to the IMDB’s listing:

Ruta Lee is listed as a cast member.

One of the cable networks was running this series for a while, a couple of years ago.

Wayne Rogers had a short-lived PI series in the mid-70’s that was set in the 30’s, called City of Angels. His secretary was played by Elaine Joyce.

Mmmmmmmmmmm. Ruta Lee. I don’t know if I first saw her in one of those Perry Masons she was in, or one of the Wild Wild Wests, but I know that she was so scrumptious I went looking to find her name.

El_Kabong you genius, Johnny Staccato it is!!

Thank you so much, now I know we’re on the right track.
