What was this movie from the early to mid 80's?

YTF I’m thinking about this I know not.

I can only remember two scenes.
One was of a dad breaking a pool cue on his son as a lesson to not trust or turn his back on anyone.

The other scene was that of a guy and girl making out in a vat of goo, possible honey.

Either ring a bell for anyone?

Maybe The Great Santini, with Robert Duvall as a USMC fighter pilot and tough dad?

I don’t remember a pool cue. I do remember,

During one-on-one games with Meechum {Robert Duvall} at home, though, his father refuses to let {his son} Ben {Michael O’Keefe} win, using unnecessarily rough physical tactics and humiliating insults and criticizing the rest of the family when they try to interfere. When Ben finally wins a game, Meechum unleashes a torrent of verbal abuse while bouncing the ball off his head.

The one line I remember from that movie was between the son and his buddy:

Buddy: Who was that girl I saw you with last night?
Son: One of the Lee sisters.
Buddy: Yeah? Well, her first name must have been ‘Ug’!"

(I was drunk at the time and thought this was hysterically funny.)

It was not The Great Santini.

This movie was more like a teenage comedy romp.

I should have guessed that. “A dad breaking a pool cue on his son” was a dead giveaway.

Why im even thinking about some flick I last saw once over 40 years ago is beyond me. For some reason the thought popped into my head. Especially the make out scee in the cat of goo.

Not Another Teen Movie?

“The cat of goo”???

I’m thinking it’s two memories fused.

The pool cue bit certainly puts it in Great Santini territory, though I do not recall that scene.

Teenage comedy romp crosses that off the list.

I also cannot recall the “vat of goo” in any movie of that era. It wasn’t John Hughes certainly. Perhaps Porky’s could have played the pool cue scene off for laughs, yet again no recall of that.

Both scenes in the same movie seems unlikely IMO.

Now, that has to be a William Castle movie.

Oh, BTW: Hog Wild?

Do not ask me how I know this.
