When I was a kid, we visited a cool landmark somewhere in the southeastern U.S. - I’d guess it was in one of the Carolinas or Georgia, though it could have been in Tennessee. It was a rock formation that was kind of like a natural tower - I believe it was even called “So and So’s Tower” or something like that - and you walked up it using staircases that were around it. On top, you could walk around and there was a flag or something like that. I’d guess it was a couple hundred feet tall, but I was a kid so it may have seemed bigger and more impressive.
We found out about it via a brochure, so I’m assuming that it’s something that’s at least decently known and advertised.
Interesting to note that it’s privately owned and operated. I was with friends last fall on an extended motorcycle trip and we came across this place by the luck of driving by. We stopped and said WTF is that?
A very delightful afternoon exploring all the nooks and crannies.
One of my favorite places- my husband has a regular gig playing at a restaurant just a mile away from there and it’s a gorgeous area. The view from the top is amazing.
Parts of The Last of the Mohicans were filmed there- breathtaking.
