The Lancer in my neck o’the woods is a knight on horseback brandishing a lance.
I was also a college Wildcat.

The retarded kid.
Sorry.
What year did you graduate? I had some friends from Arkansas Governor’s School that were from Fort Smith. They would have graduated in 1988.
Since I came into this thinking this would be a “My highschool mascot sucks worse that yours.” contest, I award the prize to Stonebow
Ours was the Hilltopper. The Hillwood Hilltoppers. It was a guy in lederhosen… I think he was supposed to be a mountain climber (though are they referring to the Alps as hills?) Which would be fine, except the Hillwood area was so named because it was previously owned by the Hill family (of H.G. Hills grocery fame). So if the Hill being topped is a person…
In middle school we had an Owl. That wouldn’t necessarily be lame, but it looked like the Tootsie Roll Mr Owl… only in bright gay-pride purple.
The Wildcats were college for me (UNH). Go 'cats!
He’s serious. Although, they did have that guy that ran around with his underwear over his pants for a while. I think he was Captain Deerfield.
My high school mascot was the Lions. In junior high we were the Cubs. Very original, I know.

Homebrew, I graduated in 1986. (Twenty year reunion coming up…eek!)
We were the Sundevils.
I’m a Cavalier too, but not one of Ohio. Myself and Brainchild876 are South Carroll Cavaliers, representing from Maryland.
My high school was The Rockets.
School colors: Red and Gray
The Rah-Rahs* changed the colors in the chants to “Red and White, Fight, Fight” since, you know, white rhymes better than Gray. The varsity jackets were red with gray leather sleeves.
My senior year the basketball team made it to the state finals in our class. We lost, badly, to a team from near Philadelphia. How a team from there was in our class I’ll never know. We were small. There were about 105 people in my class, and we were the biggest class for the 4 years before we graduated.
*Cheerleaders. Bitter, no, I’m not bitter that they paid no attention to nerdy little me.
Our colors are Red and Gray too. Our cheerleaders (I share your bitterness, I was .08 behind our Cheerleader Valedictorian) said “Red, Gray and White/ Fight, fight fight.”
My High School mascot was the Falcon and his name was Freddie.
I always admired the mascot of a nearby town. The Kewpie of Hickman High.
Eric
My first high school’s mascot was The River Kings (and Queens for the girls’ teams). It looked like some sort of Triton/mer-man with long black hair, a beard, and carrying a trident. Colors were black and red.
My second high school’s mascot was The Spartans. Colors were green and white.
I didn’t attend here, but:
I understand the story, but “Tarbabes” is a whopper of a name for a school in one of the most famously black communities in the country.
Ah, I see farther down my Google links that Compton HS has changed to the Tarlions in the past few years.
What’s a tarlion?
