Generally you’re allowed one “free” name-change (a lot of people don’t think things all the way through when they first sign up). Email tubadiva.
I contacted Tuba Diva by her Email Address. Listed under her profile or the Straight Dope page for Thread Spotting suggestions.
I am under the impression that could be false that they allow this first change fairly easily but if you push beyond one then it should be either very important or many years since the last or required a lot of butt-kissing.
I have picked up in various ATMB threads that it is a somewhat difficult task and they don’t particularly like the discontinuity.

I actually got Ed Z to change mine. He was nice about it, but a little rusty.
Wow, I *wondered *where Hillbilly Queen went.
Well, welcome back (sorta. I mean, well you know what I mean…)
First I was spermatozoa, then zygote, then blastocyst, then e-embryo, then **embryo **, then post-embryo… post-golden ager, unknown pauper, the risen, the fallen, the forgotten.

I didn’t know that the mods could change usernames, so I just stopped using my old one and signed up for a new account. These days, I’d probably get banned for that.
Careful, I know you’re joking but a few weeks ago a guest got temporarily banned for a joke like this. [I{]Repeat guesting is not allowed} *

I started as brightpenny but after a little trouble in The Pit, I changed it to…brightpenny.
I’ll let my sig do the talking! Happy first day w/ the new name day for me!
When you email Tubadiva to make changes, do so from the account under your name for SDMB, if you have more than one.
Mutter, mutter…takes sig off when previewing, mutter mutter.
I was thinking the same thing.
I started out as Elvis, then had it changed to ** Moebius**, and finally to Siddhartha Vicious. I only had the first two names very briefly.
I can’t even begin to imagine an IRL name that is similar to Skogcat.
Is that a woosh?
No woosh, my IRL name is also similar to this girl’s surname. For someone to recognise me they’d have to already know me, it’s not like a stranger would’ve been able to look me up in the phone book, but I still wanted something a bit more anonymous.
It doesn’t help that there is only one family in New Zealand and Australia with my surname.
Formerly known as Kendraen Ideals, I didn’t really like that name. Besides, all the hits google turns up for it are for me, so it wasn’t very anonymous in the sense you could find some semi-bad fanfiction.
I considered changing it to another alias of mine, but then I found out some BDSM gothic chick was advertising herself with it. I like my name much better now.
I was Henry the VIIIth I was, I was. . .
Well, okay, not really. But it sounded funny.
Tripler
::shrugs:: I tried.
There’s about three old names in this thread that I don’t recognize.
I dunno if I ever posted on the AOL boards, but I was wlaroc if I did. After that, jjtm (not jjimm), and now Troy McClure SF, which is my name (give or take some formatting) just about everywhere.
Nope I’m just very forgetable.
I recognize your name, but probably because I have tended to note the NJ
posters.
I tend to post in spurts leaving enough time in between for everyone to forget me.
