I recalled these two shows recently but can’t remember the names
or anything else about them. This is a long shot but perhaps someone
here might recognize these:
A short lived T.V. show circa 1970? The main character
was a young woman who has some sort of minor magic power but
seemed unaware that she had it. At the beginning of the
show, she would say or do something that would accidently trigger
the magic. A tinkling sound would play to indicate that
the magic had taken place. The rest of the program would
follow the other characters and show the effect that the magic
had on them. I think the show was a 30 minute long comedy.
Late 1960s I’m guessing, my mom was watching this movie when I walked
into the room. I stopped and watched a few minutes and then
left. Apparently this was an old world war two comedy movie.
I think some Americans(?) had escaped from the Germans(?) and had rescued
some local villagers. To escape they all crowded into a stolen a tank but
unfortunately no one knew how to drive it. After driving wildly
about for several minutes they ended up tottering on the edge of
a cliff. After several scary seconds they figured out how
to reverse the tank and backed away from the edge. I left
the room shortly after that and never learned the name
of the move.
Wow, this is the first thing that made me think I didn’t imagine that show. It was on in the morning line-up of reruns of inoffensive adult shows that preceded the 10am-2pm run of gameshows in the glorious 70s. After the game shows, there was a solid block of soap operas on all the broadcast channels.
That means it must have originally run in the early 70s. Unusual that it got picked up for syndication, since I don’t think it ran that long.
It was a contemporary, TV version of “Mary Poppins”. English nanny with vaguely defined clairvoyant/magical powers. They made the widower father not a jerk like in the movie, which made the nanny a potential love interest.
For #1 - I don’t remember the show having a family with children or the magic woman
speaking with a British accent. But I think most likely that you are right - it was The Nanny
and the Professor.
For #2 - Yes, that is it. I recognized the tank heading for the cliff scene in the trailer. Had
I been older at that time I probably would have remembered Hedy Lamarr instead.
Right, the tank chase was a dead giveaway. I answered the same question for my daughter a few years ago—we watched it together when she was 12 or 13, and she couldn’t remember the title either.
